描述
Tir na n'Og is not a weak nation, in terms of balance it's in a pretty good place. But the design is showing its age, with a troops roster made up of 2/3rds progressively fancier elven light spearmen, and with the release of Dominions 6 it lost most of its access to air magic in favour of the new glamour path, a change I disagree with.

For one, a nation that draws so heavily on myths of otherworlds and magical travel through hidden paths yet having no access to magical movement rituals short of Faery Trod? That doesn't sound right. For another, Tir na n'Og derives primarily from the Invasion Cycle of Irish mythology, where some of the greatest magical feats accomplished by the Tuatha have to do with storms and mists and, in some manuscripts, flying ships - of all the paths to trade for glamour, air should have been last on the list.

To that end, this mod aims to provide Tir na n'Og with, not buffs exactly, but a bit of a spitshine to bring out their inspirations and make them feel a little less humdrum about which troops to recruit. To wit, an overview of the changes;

– Edited the nation summary and start site, de-emphasising nature in favour of air.
– Altered magic pathing for Sidhe Champions, Bean Sidhe, Sidhe Lords, Ri's, and Tuatha Sorceresses, trading water and nature for air.
– Of particular note, Sidhe Lords now have random paths weighted towards air/glamour, while Ri's have traded N2 for A3, finally carving out a niche for themselves distinct from Tuatha Sorceresses.
– Altered some commander descriptions in light of the above changes. However I've tried to limit this, if I started fixing up dull unit descriptions, I feel like I'd never stop.
– Added three new recruitable units, a fir bolg retinue with heavy (by Tir na n'Og's standards) armour, a lightly armoured (even by Tir na n'Og's standards) sidhe skirmisher with notable damage, and a sidhe charioteer.
– Added Fragarach as a construction 9 artifact, ported from Dominions Enhanced.
– Added a discount to the Flying Ship artifact.
– Added a construction 4 ritual to allow upgrading Sidhe Lords/Ri's from a horse to a fancy chariot.

v1.1 update. Added a discount to the Flying Ship added, edited unit/spell tags to improve compatibility with other mods, and fixed the inflated cost of Sidhe Champions. Apparently random paths cost more than fixed ones, who knew?

I understand that, of course. Irish myths are badly under-represented, I'd love to see more of them.

Btw, one thing I noted after playing Dominions over the years is that I've started missing "archetypical elves" and dwarves :)

@sir Evans I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I don't think I'll be doing that. Partly, I designed this for the default multiplayer settings rather than minimum-resource max-indy games, but mainly because I WANT to de-emphasise TNN's nature access.

Digging into the Invasion Cycle of Irish myth, I found that the Tuatha really aren't your archetypal tree-hugging forest elves - if they're associated with any terrain types, it's really more mountains and highlands. If I were making a more radical overhaul I'd be thinking more about drawing on things like Nuada Silverhand ruling from the Mountain of Iron, and redesigning TNN as an Air/Earth/Glamour nation with even less nature pathing. But that would be a much bigger, more drastic project than I wanted to do with this.

Honestly, I would be fine with you just adding these extra paths instead of trading one for another.
Tir is marginally better than Vanheim or Ctis when it comes to my games, they usually get wiped out pretty quickly save for some lucky placement.

I usually play games with minimum resources available on the map and mighty independents, so most nations do poorly, except for Agartha/Ermor for some reason. But they too can get unlucky sometimes.

@Birbvs Memeticvs There's already a fyling ship as an artifact. I suppose I could give them a national discount on it. Or possibly a much smaller version they could make multiple of at const 7? I'll think about it.

Come to think of it, a "flying ship" commander item would be a lot of fun, despite
being busted in terms of balance.
