Real Good Headlights for Modded Trucks

描述
REAL GOOD HEADLIGHTS for Modded Trucks

I like taking requests for new truck mods to add headlight support for. As long as the truck mod is free and from a source approved by the author, I will add the truck if it checks out OK. If it is a paid mod, I can't justify spending money on it since this is a free mod. However, if enough people were to donate the money needed for me to purchase the truck mod, then I would buy it and add it. I would even pitch in part of the money. Take, for instance, the Jon Ruda truck mods for $30. I would pitch in $5-$10 towards the purchase. So, if 20 people each donated one dollar, I could buy the truck and add support for it. You can make a donation to my PayPal account. The email address I use with PayPal is maurice@speedwaymail.net. Be sure to leave a message with the donation and specify the desired truck.

These headlights aim to give you a feeling of real life night time driving. Get ready for a more pleasurable drive at night. Your nights will not seem long enough.

This version is for various modded trucks in American Truck Simulator. My other mod works with the stock SCS trucks. In the Workshop for Euro Truck Simulator 2 you can also find two more versions, one for the SCS trucks and one for modded trucks.

This will greatly improve the visibility when driving at night. Good visibility was a top priority when creating this mod along with trying to keep as much realism as possible. With these headlights, you will get some light reflected to both sides near the front of the truck which will make it much easier to see when turning at a dark intersection, or turning into a dark entry.

Place this mod above the supported trucks that you wish to use it with.

Halogen, LED, and Xenon lights are supported.

All of the following modded trucks are supported:

Diamond Reo Giant

Dodge CNT

Dodge DN800/D500

TRUCK NOTES:
Haterbilt 389: This truck appears to only use Xenon lights. In addition to Xenon lights, I also included Halogen and LED lights in case the truck is ever offered with them as an option. Also, click the Discussions link near the top of this page to find out how to remove the excessive tint from the door glass. The windshield is OK, but the tint on the door glass makes the mirrors darker and hard to view. It also makes it harder to see when turning at night.
Pete 362: At the dealers and repair shops, you can purchase either Halogen or LED lamps for this truck. However, the LED lamps mistakenly supply Xenon lights with them. This mod fixes it and provides LED lights.
Outlaw 359 and Doms 379: These two trucks have way too much tint on the windshield and door glass when viewing through them from the interior of the cab. This makes visibility at night very poor and also reduces the effectiveness of the headlights. Click the Discussions link near the top of this page to discover the fix.
Dodge DN800/D500: To make this work with 1.54 (and higher), in the mod, you must delete a folder and its contents, "/vehicle/truck/share". Until this folder is deleted, the game will crash during startup. Nothing in the folder is needed for the truck to operate. I might make this truck mod available for downloading on my own website as I have done this deletion and also have deleted a couple of hundred other completely unnecessary files that are not used at all. On my system, the truck runs very well.
All Jon Ruda trucks: Adjusted the color temperatures and other settings to compensate for the extra tint on the interior view of the windshield and door glass.
Western Star 4900: This truck is not using the same headlights as the other trucks. This is my PRT Test Vehicle. I am using this truck for testing headlights in anticipation of SCS allowing headlight mods for Project Road Trip. In the current release, I am developing the headlights for the 1970 Dodge Charger and other older model PRT vehicles such as the 1967 Mustang. When I have finished using this truck for PRT development, I will install headlights into it just like all the other trucks.
Peterbilt 379: This is the second truck that I have chosen to use for developing headlights for Project Road Trip, so it is currently not using the same headlights as the other trucks. In the current update, I am using this truck for developing the headlights for the Ford Crown Victoria. When I have finished using this truck for PRT development, I will install headlights into it just like all the other trucks.

I used to hate driving at night. I would coordinate my rest periods so I would sleep through the night and only drive during daytime hours. With this mod, I now look forward to driving at night. I hope you will enjoy this as much as I do.

See.. I don't think people realize just how much work goes into making a great mod... especially one that still works (yours) when all others break after a game update. Think I'll start much smaller... that's a lot to wrap my head around for the moment. I need to learn this scs.extractor tool first thing and how to edit truck parameters.

I had to shorten up the previous message due to the 1000 character limit. Read that one first. I use two other tools. After making a change to a light mask in Gimp, it gets saved as a BMP file. I then use the Nvidia Texture Tools Exporter to convert it into a DDS file. For creating the corresponding TOBJ file, I use TOBJEditor by Elitesquad Modz. The TOBJ file only needs to be created one time unless the DDS file gets moved to another directory location.

I use Gimp for editing the light masks. Everything else is text editing. I use the game for testing. I have specific locations where I do the testing. I also do regular deliveries in different areas. I use desert areas because there are fewer obstructions so I can make sure the lights aren't shining way out into the countryside. I test on open freeways and 2 lane highways. I use specific trucks, one with high mounted headlights and one with low mounted ones. I get the lights looking good for both of these and use a formula for calculating the settings for all the other trucks. A lot of work, thought, and many hours are used for each update. The SCS packer tool compresses it all into one considerably smaller file and the SCS Workshop uploader validates it and uploads it to Steam. The end result looks like it should be quite simple, but it's not. There is a lot to keep track of. Every time I do an update, I'm always afraid I forgot something.

I was wondering... what programs / tools are you using to make these mods? I was entertaining the idea of making mods for personal use... to start out with, But I'm absolutely clueless as where to even start ...
As always, a BIG Thanks for all that you do to improve the game !

Bomkat, the 521 is a done deal and will appear in this weekend's update. This update also has me starting work on the headlights for the Viper that is coming to PRT. I'm almost done with the Charger and Mustang headlights as well as the headlights for the Crown Victoria.

I blacklisted that Modsfire web site... kept try to download some malware when I clicked on generate link. And I agree with you... The Phantom isn't really my thing either.
Bomkat 10 月 23 日 下午 2:43
Say... you get a chance to look at the free Kenworth 521 by smrs yet ?
maurice  [作者] 10 月 22 日 下午 2:27
VargrFenrir, I'm glad you found the issue.
maurice  [作者] 10 月 22 日 下午 1:47
I was able to finally download that Phantom a couple of days ago and built some headlights for it. It's not my style of truck, but I know there are others who love that type. But, I don't think they drive at night much. They like to fly outside of the truck and watch it go down the road in the daylight. Nevertheless, the headlights will be available for it for anyone who wants to drive this truck at night. As for the Modsfire website, what a crappy site and a crappy job of programming there. Whoever runs that site should be ashamed of himself. It's a true scam operation.

@maurice, ended up getting the paid version of the Phantom.. I can honestly say I'm not impressed with it... it's still pretty locked down and the options are minimal at best. However, there 's another Kenworth that would surely benefit from better headlights. KW 521 by SMRS (free)
