SHIELDWALL CONTINUATION
Thrones Reforged is a continuation of the amazing work done by the SHIELDWALL team, who built a mod that transformed Thrones of Britannia into something special. Without their incredible foundation, Reforged could not exist. Our goal is to honor that work while pushing the game even further.

Please note: Reforged was designed to be used with MEDIUM UNIT SIZES and VERY HARD difficulty.
Also make sure to be playing only using ENGLISH

OUR GOAL
We believe Thrones of Britannia is an underrated Total War title with huge potential. Our mission is to build on the top-tier work of the SHIELDWALL team and expand it with new mechanics, systems, and content — giving players fresh reasons to enjoy the game for years to come.

Shieldwall Overhaul

RELEASE INFO
This is an early release and should not be considered a finished project. The purpose of this version is to gather feedback and ideas for future development. This is a passion project — updates take time, but development is very active and ongoing.



Brought over from SHIELDWALL
  • Completely redone unit rosters for every culture
  • Overhauled military tech tree in the style of Shogun 2
  • Four fully fleshed-out population mechanics: Peasants, Nobles, Foreigners, and Clergy
  • Completely rebalanced battles with an emphasis on period tactics and the shieldwall formation
  • Food storage system
  • Revamped character traits, each with dilemmas for more player choice
  • Rebalanced buildings and effects
  • New effects for skills and attributes
  • pappaBear’s historical landmarks, wonders, and flavor events
  • Dozens of new events (expanded regularly)

Reforged Features
  • 55 Playable factions (ongoing work to bring them all to Shieldwall standard)
  • Custom faction traits for Major & Minor factions
  • Fixed UI for faction selection menu
  • Added Shieldwall mechanics UI to new factions & fixed top row UI
  • Classification of Major & Minor factions to separate fully polished Shieldwall factions from those in progress

Recent Development Highlights
  • Full Supply System overhaul
    - Raiding, sieges, fortify stance, attrition changes
    - Armies can no longer roam endlessly without planning logistics
  • Fatigue System rework
    - Units tire more realistically, archers fatigue when firing
    - New morale penalties for exhaustion
  • Missile balance changes
    - Adjusted calibration distances and accuracy
    - Reduced AP damage for certain ranged units
  • Minor Town Garrisons
    - Expanded garrison sizes to make towns and cities more defensible
    - Capitals gain unique hero units when besieged
  • Campaign balance passes
    - Small town and city overhauls
    - Early-game faction starts rebalanced for improved pacing
  • - Victory conditions added for all factions
  • - Integration of multiple community submods for historical authenticity
  • - New Riot event and dilemma with many more to come

    Mod works great so far, hats off to the authors, vastly improves the base game.

    I didn't take it seriously when they said "this mod is designed to be played at Very Hard" because there are a lot of masochistic gamers out there, but it definitely is built for that. I played on Normal to give it a try and it was beyond easy. No political intrigue or declarations of war on my faction (with the exception of the Norrmen who came at me with an one army with 4 units that I auto-resolved to Valhalla). My armies of wounded soldiers were beating armies larger and far healthier than mine. Income was out of control after turn 25. I had too much money, troops and nothing to do with no resistance.:steamthumbsup:

    PLAY THIS MOD ON VERY HARD. It's challenging but not impossible, especially because the building and tech trees make so much more sense and you can, using any experience you've had with other Total War games, adapt your buildings and tech to suit your needs.

    I don't know of any submod which removes minor town garrisons. I doubt we will work on that for now, it's too unrealistic and ahistorical unfortunately but i do appreciate your input, I'll look into the balance of it.

    Hello, thanks for your work on this mod. I'm currently playing a campaign with Scotland and noticed that the AI seems unable to account for minor settlement garrisons, frequently attacking with inferior numbers. I feel this feature might not be suitable for the AI. Do you know if there's a submod available to disable these garrisons?

    I can’t say for sure but perhaps there are Viking mercenary units in the garrisons? I’ll try to pay attention in the future

    Have you noticed anything particular about the garrison units? We suspect there's a few units specifically that cause the crash.

    Still loving the mod! I’ve noticed a CTD bug playing as multiple major (Mierce, Northumbria) and minor (Veisafjordr, Powys, Suthseaxe) factions when I’m besieging settlements and the AI garrison sallies out. It can happen either when choosing to fight rather than auto resolve or retreat and also after deploying troops on the battle map and clicking start battle. Turn does not seem to matter.

    Well rapid advance is okay in itself, its just the 100% modifier could be 15%

    When I was working on the mod there was a few things I never got around to fixing.

    -Irish faction leaders having Pictish tattoo legs and just give them the regular legs with no tattoos

    -Removing the large round shields from the Irish generals and giving them the small shield like I did with the faction leader of Mide.

    Maybe the team can throw that on the list if you are still working on that aspect.
