That said, I will put out a patch to reduce the maximum footstep sound distance to be extra cautious. Let me know if you still have problems after I've released the patch.
I don't see any clues as to why this is happening though. I can check my code to see if a large number of mobs could cause a crash, but I remember making it so the mod doesn't do anything if a mob is too far from you (which saves memory by not creating any sounds).
How much motion are we talking? Hundreds of farm animals in a small pen?
Is this a server or singleplayer?
If server, how many players?
How many animals/creatures/villagers are nearby you when this happens?
