Ferry Pinkeu Holaijeun (45-Meter Korean Commuter Ferry)

描述

About Ferry Holaijeun

Laid down in Mokpo, South Korea, by Moonchang Shipbuilding, in 1986, she was an order for a 45 meter ferry for Songrim shipping. She was launched a few months later as "Pinkeu Holaijeun". She was a small ship for the route, with a miniscule passenger capacity, with only room for 36 passengers.

She Began commercial operation in 1988 between Jeju-Hachujado island as a replacement for the now aging "Cheonsa Island". Despite relative success in the early summer, its entry into service was difficult, in late July 1989, Typoon Judy hit Japan together with South Korea. Ferry Holaijeun failed to shelter in time and was caught by the waves. Carrying 36 passengers (fully booked) and with a full cardeck, her rudder failed at 01:36 UTC. The ship drifted, and eventually faced the waves broadside. She lost power before any SOS was sent. As the typhoon rapidly weakened, and as day broke, the ferry was found beached in Jeju. All passengers and crew were rescued.

She was salvaged and repaired and pressed back to service. She continued a life with Songrim until 1997. Since its creation, Songrim Shipping has invested in the renewal of its aging fleet. Due to its configuration too far removed from that of the other ships and much less adapted to the current traffic trend, it was decided that Holaijeun would be among the first to leave the fleet. In 1997, it was replaced by the newly built "Songrim Blue Sky" and retired, and sold to Sawyer Link (SL) of the Sawyer Isles, where it was put into service on the Spycakes - Camodo route under the name "Sawyer Sky".

She underwent some work to adapt it to its future assignment. In addition to being repainted in SL colors, while no work was done to the exterior, as she was known to be unstable, her interiors was revamped to fit the less dense traffic of the Sawyer Isles. With this, her passenger capacity goes down, but her cargo capacity went up.

By this time, her age is now showing problems, her installed propulsion of dual Doosan 2 cylinders was an experimental design, while it makes the ship have an outstanding range, it generated massive amounts of heat. With the lack of engine room space due to the massive engines, her engine frequently overheated with the sawyer weather.

In 2005, Her original Moonchang builders went from South Korea to Sawyer to await a Sawyer Sky drydocked in Sawyer South. What the Korean builders came up with are a computer that detects a high temperature, which in turn controls the engine mixture when overheating, and also an "engine supercooling system". After a series of trials and errors, they came up to a partial success. While they were able to keep a massive temperature decrease, they could not avoid a decrease in speed, from 14 knots to only 11. With this, she can now do longer routes such as from North Harbour to FJ warner docks.

She continued her life on as usual, until September 18, 2010, the Sawyer Isles was alerted by Storm Greg, a tropical storm common at that time of year. Announced as being of low intensity, it did not represent any threat to maritime traffic. Due to set sail at 8 p.m. for a night crossing to Sawyer North Harbour, Sawyer sky remained at the docks for two more hours after the captain decided to wait for the typhoon to weaken. At 10 p.m., the ship left FJ warner docks with 16 passengers, 5 trucks, 2 cars, and 5 crew members on board.

Reinforced by the forecasts of the Sawyer meteorological agency, the captain was unaware, however, that the storm was in reality more intense than expected with gusts blowing at more than 120 km/h. Battered by the waves, the ship gradually registered a strong list to port. At midnight, while off Sawyer south fishing village, the Sawyer Sky, destabilized, lay on her port side. Although the reason for the capsizing has not been officially established, it was probably due to a shift in cargo. The ship remained afloat until around 1 a.m. before disappearing from the surface, giving most of the passengers time to escape using life rafts. The survivors were spotted at daybreak by fishermen who rescued some of them while waiting for the late arrival of the coast guard. Due to the supposed presence of stowaways on board, the death toll is uncertain but is estimated to be between 5 to 10, Most of the victims were crewmen, who were trapped inside the ship when it capsized while others drowned due to the violence of the waves.

Procedures, Notes, Checklists, etc..

Route kit provided for you!

This ferry will be spawned with full ballasts, if you want to immediately load cargo, remove / reduce the fluid spawning in the ballast tanks.

Operating the autopilot (copied from Zizo's autopilot system page)

A: Toggle autopilot mode (at least one waypoint set)
W: Sets the final waypoint, input by keyboard coordinates
- To add a waypoint, click on the line between two waypoints
- To remove a waypoint, first select it and then click on it again
- To move a waypoint, fist select it and then select where else it should be.
< and > buttons: Cycle through the waypoints
M: Change the map coloration
- Zoom is handled automatically

LOVE your stuff. Could you maybe make a ship based on the US Navy Watson-class vehicle cargo ship?

@SecHa alright. The best way to sink anything is by adding a large amount of fluid pumps to pump in seawater while a large amount of gas relief valves allow the air to get removed efficiently.

@Lucky Tiny Storm

Thank you!

It's very hard to make a ferry sinkable; the other side of ws community wants ferries that can carry a lot, so it will need and will have a lot of bouyancy. (which is the ship here)

Now the other spectrum; they want a sinkable ferry.

So other than finding out how to make a ship after the gases update (which is already hard), I have to find a very sweet spot that makes a ferry like this carry cargo, and also to fullfill to the "sinkable community's" wants.

Im not the person that has 10 hours every day nor even the question if those 10 hours are free time, so expect it to come.... for a very long time

Nice ferry, is it sinkable?
