Gorre & Daphetid No. 43

描述
One of the first liveries we made for the GD, way back in 2021, out at last!

No. 43 is one of only a few surviving original GD locomotives, alongside the famous 4-10-0 No. 34, 4-4-0 No. 8, and 0-4-0 No. 10. John Allen would take it along when visiting other layouts, and like No. 34, it was likely not on the layout when fire destroyed the GD in early 1973.

A story in the June 1981 Railroad Model Craftsman recounts how he'd use it in tug-of-war contests against other engines at NMRA shows. His practice of pouring lead into the boilers of his engines gave them astounding pulling power, not to mention weight -- the real GD 43 weighs 1 pound, 14.3 ounces and could out-pull two other engines pulling against it!

Currently, the engine is maintained by Dave Gorelle, who also owns a pair of original GD ore cars and a locomotive from the Tioga Pass, a railroad built by John's friend and collaborator Jim Findley. You can find out more in the July 2012 Model Railroad Hobbyist[issuu.com].

If this is the engine that I think it is, I think only the chassis survived. It's entirely possible it's another Berkshire that I'm thinking of and that he had multiple Berkshires (I think the one I'm thinking of started life as a brass C&O Kanawha).

Two of the Mikados survived, one based on a C&O prototype and one based on a Santa Fe prototype, both badly damaged from the fire and from being left in a duffel bag and being knocked around in an attic for a few years, as well as a 2-8-0 without it's tender and a 4-6-0 which infamously has a lead engine pit fused to it's frame (because it was sitting over it when the fire occurred.

There was a G&D locomotive that was actually sold at a private auction a few years ago. I think the 2-8-0 was the one that was put for auction, but I can't remember.

_Meanwhile, I had an opportunity to purchase an Athearn GP38-2 lettered for Tony Koester's Allegheny Midland many years ago, and I passed it up and I've been immensely regretting it since._

Are you looking in the Liveries menu, or Modding? It's a livery for the default Berkshire, so it'll show up in Main Menu > Liveries as Gorre & Daphetid 43

Neato! Any chance for a version using one of CygnusOx's Berkshires too? If not, that's okay.
