Arsenal and Cultural Overhaul is out now! It includes all the improvements made in CGE - Redux, but adds several additional helmets, new cloak and cape sprites, entity changes, and more!

This mod is still good for the fact that it does not conflict with as many other mods, but otherwise, Arsenal and Cultural Overhaul takes a larger step in improving visuals and civilizations.

The venerable Creature Graphics Extended mod, adapted, updated, and expanded upon for the Adventure Mode release.

This mod was built on, and heavily relied upon, the work of Jacko in the original CGE. Please, do check it out. I am standing on the shoulders of a giant, without whom I could not have made this mod.

Features
- Non-portrait graphics now synchronize with portrait graphics, with facial features being determined by actual creature descriptions.
- All of the diverse range of eye colors from among the dwarves, humans, and elves are now visible.
- Beards, moustaches, and sideburns layers have all been separated from each other, allowing for significant diversity of facial hair styles; Chinstraps, mutton chops, and lonely moustaches are all now represented properly.
- Limbs are now visibly severed, with corresponding pants leg and sleeve shortening.
- Facial features' requirements for body part measurements have been modified, keeping some feature variants from being extremely common.
- An additional, middle-ground skin tone for dwarves, humans, and elves.
- Innumerable tweaks and fixes to both CGE's and vanilla's graphics.



If you have a bug to report, do so in the dedicated bug report discussion.

Incompatibilities include any mod which modifies or uses the graphics files or sprites of the vanilla civilized creatures.

I am planning an expansion of armor and weapon graphics in the future. Suggestions, requests, and recommendations or advice, are all welcome. As are commissions, when I have published a decent beta version.

Thanks for the reply. I like the old all metal heater shields because it feels very dwarfy. I like having my dwarfs in full steel armour and the all metal heater shields finish the look.

Plus the ingame item portraits are also metal heaters, so it will avoid confusion from players.

It's on my list to separate shields into heater and round shields, not just to revert to the old heater shields. I might add other shields as well. Different civilizations will have access to different shields.

Here's a little question, do you want the old all-metal heater shields, or would you like metal-rimmed wooden shields? I have a mind to add in some various colors and patterns to all shields, if I can get around to it.

I have several other things on the list right now including bug fixes and content updates as well, though, and I'm not sure when I'll get around to them, though when I do I intend to update it all at once. I'd like to get it done around the time the siege update comes in, but it's unlikely to work out that soon.

Hi mate, so do you plan to update the round shield design back to the metal heater shields? I love this mod but this is a pretty big thing for me. I saw someone else in the comments being confused about the shields too. I would like it if you can implement the metal heater shields again. Ty

It could be an issue with a new update, but try it without any other mods, first.

Unless, do you only mean that they show up in the error log? I thought there was an issue someone had before, where errors showed up there, but didn't actually show up anywhere in-game.

Just checking, is anyone getting errors with Goblin portraits and cloaks?
I get a bunch in my error log, though it's likely to be a compatibility issue on my end.

Possibly. I'll be busy for a while, and once I can work on this again, there's other stuff to do first. But I'll add it to the to-do list.

A bit fantastical from me, but if ever it is possible to have DF equivalents of Corinthian helmets and Trojan shields, thatd be wicked..

That is unfortunate, I hope you didn't make anything too impressive yet. But yes, layered graphics is incompatible. Technically it runs, but it causes some problems, and because the sprites are of different sizes and whatnot, it wouldn't look good even if it worked.

I ought to have gone through some of these more popular mods which would be incompatible, sorry. I'm adding it to the list for the next update.

Yeah, I'm using layered graphics. Is that mod also incompatible with this one?
So far it's only two dwarves who have this issue and they're just wearing regular dresses and trousers...
It also doesn't seem like I can remove the mod mid-game :/
