I suppose I could do another acr if I get some time this week
alternatively, here are some basic instructions
1. Download an app called GCFScape from "NemsTools"
2. Install and allow to associate with VPKs on the install menu
3. Go into your game files
4. Find insurgency2\insurgency\custom\workshop
5. Find this addon in there and open in GCFScape
6. Go to material/models/weapons and find 2 textures that are called something like acr_upper.vtf
and acr_lower.vtf DO NOT pick the ones that have wm or nm in the name!
7. Open them by double clicking and save to desktop
8.Download an app called VTFedit from "NemsTools"
9.Open VTFedit and click file>open
10. Open one of the .vtfs on your desktop
11. Click file>export
12 export it as a png or tga
13 repeat steps 10-12 for the other vtf file
15. -Realise how lazy I am when you see the gun skin, edit to your heart's content, trying to figure out what bits go where. By the way the “upper” file is for the “upper receiver” of the gun and the lower is for the “lower receiver”. If you don’t know what that means, it’s a pretty easy google.
16. -Once you’re done, open up VTFedit again, click file>import and navigate to your newly edited png
17. -it will give your some options for importing, ignore them, they are probably all ok
18. -give your computer a second to load, click file>save and save it as a VTF on your desktop
19. - make a folder called custom, in that folder make another called materials, in materials another called models, in models another called weapons in there another called “acr” (I think, whatever the name was of that folder you got the textures from originally)
21. -navigate to your insurgency folder, open insurgency2\bin
22. -drag your newly created custom folder on your desktop into the vpk.exe program in your bin folder.
23. -you’ll notice a .vpk file has been created on your desktop! whoopee!
24. - drag that custom.vpk into your insurgency2\insurgency\custom folder in your game files
25. -Play!
side notes:
it isn’t as daunting as it looks
if my textures are impossible to use, download birghtside’s original tan or black acr and extract the textures from that
if you are on a mac, I think theportingteam have done a mac port of vtfedit and gcfscape
feel free to message me if you get stuck
sorry for the late reply, australians gotta sleep sometimes
give a man a fish and he’ll have food for a day, teach a man to fish and he’ll leave you alone for the whole weekend!
