Ultimate Metal Baseball Bat - Beta Restoration

The ultimate metal baseball bat mod is here... in my opinion, at least.

The baseball bat was initially supposed to be made of metal in Left 4 Dead 2, as seen in the pre-release beta builds. The original model and texture files are still floating around, so I've combined them with default animations and custom sound effects to make the best "vanilla plus" experience I can manage. I'm not aware of any bugs, but tell me if you find some.

Major credit goes to user Theuaredead for recompiling Valve's old bat model and releasing it on the Workshop. My Blender skills are limited, and this wouldn't have been possible without their original mod. Shout-outs to Chimi Chamo as well for uploading fixed animations that were used in the 1.1 patch.

The new sounds were all custom mixed by me, using samples from TF2 (baseball bat hit) and L4D2 (crunchy, fleshy hit sounds). If you'd like to have the sounds as a separate mod, click here.

I've been using an older version of this mod privately for years now, but I think it's finally ready for the world to see now that I've fixed some animation issues from Theuaredead's original upload. Enjoy!

This mod has finally been updated to fix an animation glitch and restore motion blur, making it 100% vanilla style. Please note that the demonstration video is now slightly outdated.

Good catch! That animation bug is so subtle I never even noticed it. I copied the default animations so I have no idea how that happened.

I might try fixing it someday, but to be honest I'm not sure if I'd even know how. Hopefully it's not too distracting for you :tank:

Hey uh, I don't know if this is a bug or anything but, when I shove, the shoving animation doesn't transition correctly with the idle pose, nonetheless great mod! Would use it again!

I remember having some trouble changing the drop sounds for whatever reason, but I might give that another go.

The only thing missing is metal drop sounds, otherwise this is great :steamthumbsup:

If there's a mod out there that makes the cricket bat look like a wooden baseball bat, you're good to go. Changing bat skins and sound effects on the fly isn't possible to my knowledge, but at least there's a workaround.
