WEAPON/C4 LOCKER CODE: 454

Introduction
The NMS Halibut is the lead ship of the Halibut Class, in service with the New Maurian Navy. The Halibut Class of submarines are very capable diesel-electric attack submarines, designed for littoral operations on multiplayer servers. The vessel's efficiency enables it to transit just about anywhere within 100 km, then have the endurance to run for 2 hours on battery at 10 knots, with a max possible submerged speed of 79 knots.

Halibut Class submarines currently in service with the New Maurian Navy:
  • NMS Halibut (SSK-454)
  • NMS Perch (SSK-455)
  • NMS Pike (SSK-456)
  • NMS Wrasse (SSK-457)
  • NMS Labrus (SSK-458)
  • NMS Bream (SSK-459)
  • NMS Hake (SSK-460)
  • NMS Scad (SSK-461)

Instructions

Maneuvering:

Maneuvering is controlled with the helm station or with topside controls, when activated by the key button in the helm station.

Pitch: W/S
Yaw: A/D
Throttle: 1 (up) 2 (down)
Horn: 3
Space: Fire Missile (see below)
NEW: The compass screen is now hooked to a tilt-able camera on the bow, this can be used to assist in navigation and aiming the missiles (missiles fly into the numbers at lowest elevation).

Diving:

  1. Fill forward and aft ballast on the left panel of the helm station, monitor ballast gauges until they both indicate 100% for neutral buoyancy
  2. Select desired depth on Depth Hold keypad, engage depth hold if desired, otherwise manually pitch down. NEW: You can now move pitch axis while depth hold is on, useful for assisting with depth changes.
  3. Enabling the Stationary Depth Motor CB on the front of the helm station will allow the vessel to stay on depth while stationary, will travel to and maintain selected depth with depth hold on.

Surfacing:

  1. Enable the Drain Bow Ballast and Drain Stern Ballast buttons
  2. Open and close the Ballast Air Blow Valve for just a second or so to supply both ballasts some pressure to drain them faster. Bow and Stern ballast pressure dials are located in front of the Helm Station.
  3. Set depth hold to 0 meters or just manually pitch up to the surface
  4. Monitor ballast levels for evenness and stop ballast drain once adequate freeboard is achieved (deck height above waterline)

Recharging batteries and High Pressure (HP) air:

  • Recharging batteries and HP air both require air, meaning either the air inlet on top of the sail or the snorkel must be above water.
  • To recharge your batteries, go to the engine room and start the diesel engine. Once the generator is engaged batteries will recharge.
  • To recharge HP air, enable the 'HP Air Recharge' button in the control room.
  • Max continuous engine throttle is 0.90. Above 0.90 you should closely monitor your engine temps to prevent overheating.

Using the waterfall sonar:

  • Tap the power icon on screen to turn on the passive sonar, passive contacts will be displayed as a waterfall line
  • Tapping the 'A' on the screen will command active sonar, the + and - will set ping interval in seconds. (Longer intervals will wait for further returns to come back before sending another ping
  • Active returns will have a contact distance readout

Use of Sonar with MNCS/HATS:

  • Use touchscreen controls on screen to zoom, reset, move, and recenter as desired
  • Detections with a mass greater than 300 will be indicated by a red blip on screen
  • Pressing e on the target will 'bug' it, displaying bearing and altitude (depth in m) on screen, target mass will show on a digital readout. A bugged target also cues it for torpedo launch.
  • Clear bugged target with 'C' button on-screen.

Weapons Employment:

NEW: AN/WLQ-6 ECM suite that detects and warns of radar/old sonar sensors either searching or weapon homing on the vessel. Allows for manual chaff dispense and auto chaff dispense to counter incoming missiles. (Recommended to keep auto chaff mode on when surfaced, and disabled when submerged)

Torpedoes:

There are 2 torpedo types on board, Tube 1 (left) is loaded with ZE BLUP torpedoes, used for anti-ship engagements. These are simply launched and home in on the first ship within it's line of sight. Tube 2 (right) is loaded with Marino AR4 torpedoes, capable of engaging surface and submerged vessels. These torpedoes interact with the MNCS sonar datalink and can engage a selected target. With a bugged target on sonar, press and hold Fire Tube 2 until you hear a good weapon release. Reload tubes by hitting the Reload Tube 1 or Reload Tube 2 Button. Without a selected target the torpedo will track whatever is ahead of it. AR4 Torpedoes will datalink position and time to impact on the MNCS screen.

Missiles: (effective from surface to 20m)

From the helm station, you can change the elevation of launch with the red lever if needed. Steer the ship to put a target vessel, helicopter, or land target directly ahead. Arm the missile launcher with the key on the left console, the launcher will elevate. Eyeball a good elevation by moving the lever up and down until the missile is pointed at a good trajectory. Hold the Missile Fire button or space to shoot. The missile will corkscrew and track on first radar target found. The first fire command arms the missiles, and will not shoot.

Mining Operations/Harbor Area Denial:

The Halibut can be equipped with 8x Mk 18 Naval Drift Mines, listed under required workshop items. These mines are carried on the exterior hardpoints of the vessel. To equip them, go to the selection grid, load content, select the mines in the workshop tab, and paste. These mines are slightly buoyant small warheads that will rise to just below the surface of the water after you drop them, and will detonate if you cough in their general direction. These mines are very sensitive after deployment, so be careful not to contact the mines while deploying. The button to deploy mines is in the Weapons Control Station.

NEW: mine hardpoints now have composite inputs to allow for guidance of the UUM-2 curveball torpedo

For some reason HP air doesn't want to refill.

@bpearl17 the torpedo launch buttons need to be held for a second or two to fire. This is to prevent accidental launch.

I can't get the torpedoes to fire. I hit the button in the control room and nothing happens.

Hey man, just wanted to thank you for bringing one of the BEST submarines i've had the fortune of piloting to-date.

Just one little hiccup;
Torp-2 tends to hang-up on the geometry of the hull on tube 2.
Fixed it by removing the 4x1's and replacing them with 2x1 wedges.
Doesn't really detract from the hull-shape much and makes it so Torp-2 doesn't blow up against the meaty-bits of the boat.
