The NNTC Honey Badger is an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) combined with a combat engineer vehicle (CEV) designed for close quarters combat and extraction of immobilized vehicles under fire.
Unlike the Squirrel, which is designed for speed and mobility to patrol large areas like Sawyer or Arid, the Honey Badger is adapted more to environments like Donkk island where enemy infantry and armor are engaged at very close ranges.
Due to limited engineering resources constraining the amount of platforms NNTC can produce, the Honey Badger had to fit both the tracked IFV role as well as the CEV role both in the same vehicle. The turret and fire control system electronics were carried over from the Squirrel, in order to focus on redesigning the hull for a focus on ballistic protection as opposed to weight savings.
As a vehicle made for close combat, the crew structure was also changed from the driver/gunner + commander/gunner one to two person crew format, into a single crew format with a secondary station for battlefield management. The commander/radio operator position features a large 3x2 display for NN-Link, as well as support for waypoint entry and NN-Link voice transmit and receive. This gives the commander the ability to designate targets for naval bombardment, artillery strike, or airstrike, as well as the ability to monitor the positions of friendly assets in the battlespace. With these capabilities, the Honey Badger can also be used as a reconnaissance or command vehicle in situations where a specialized vehicle is not available.
