Coastal settlements of Neritia started reporting finding more and more strange large eggs clutches and being visited by turtleman of unknown species. These mysterious turtlemen did not look like the extinct turtlemen, but resembled zaratans - ancient island-sized sea turtles of antediluvian times thought to be long gone. The so-called zaratan progenies, beings of great physical and magical power, called the tortles back to the coasts, promising to reclaim their lost lands. The greatest progeny mages - the cluth keepers - took on seeking out more and more zaratan clutches and forcing the eggs to hatch to produce reinforcements. This event coincided with the fall of Sceleria and the opening of the soul gates. When the gates were open, some spectres of the dead possessed yet unhatched zaratan progenies, tainting them with dark powers. When hatched, such eggs produced the so-called blackshells - half-living turtlemen with dark powers.
