When the star shards rained to the ocean from the sky, not only R'lyeh was destroyed, but the Great Shark Totem too. Ichtyids became free from the influence of the Totem, and the Shark Cult fell. The ruling positions were taken by the Kelp Kings, druids that were living in recluse when the Shark Cult was prospering.
