Even if I were a lore freak (purist), for the game I'd still like to play against factions that can pose a threat, realistically and the starting home worlds are too useful to each faction to lose before each faction has consolidated more planets. In my experience.
This doesn't say much about Star Trek (the Picard series) but of how Paradox grand strategy games work...

Makes even less of sence since we are playing on the TNG time which is before that. Also It was the Hobus star that exploded, not the one from the Romulus system (atleast acording to the star trek online map, which i assume to be somewhat acurate.
