Not content to simply update its capital ships, the IMDC was also updating its smaller combat ships. The original F-13a Kestrel was envisioned as a medium interceptor equipped with Gatling weapons and rocket launchers. While superseded by its newer sibling the F-15 Kestrel, these older ships still served a valuable role in second line units. Technology, though, had moved on, necessitating a refit of both versions of the Kestrel. The updated F-13c Kestrel replaces the original four Gatling guns with four new autocannon, and the original non-reloadable rocket launchers with more powerful assault cannons. The turrets also received a suitable upgrade to newer autocannon turrets. Lastly, its atmospheric performance was substantially increased, owing to the development of new compact lift fans. The newly updated Kestrel is now ready to deploy to the fleet.

Out-of-character:

This was a fairly straightforward upgrade in principle, although anyone who's done any small ship work can tell you the plumbing systems for new and legacy turrets are nothing alike (thank goodness) so I basically had to redesign the center of the wings. The new lift fans provided an unexpected bonus; the ship does not need hydrogen thrusters at all to fly in atmosphere, although stopping and lateral movement will be painfully slow without them. This ship should be flown in atmosphere like an actual fighter; bank and use your bottom lift fans to counter your previous direction of movement.

For those wondering why I didn't do the newer F-15 Kestrel, the short answer is that it'll fall apart the moment I remove those old Gatling turrets. I'll do it later but for now here's an update of the F-13a. Just trying to get some updated IMDC small ships out there to go along with the new capital ships.
