All stories must come to an end, and the one of the Zemplix is no exception. Most species of Zemplix were extinct for unknown reasons, with only a few strange, highly transformed species existing anymore. One such example is the Lampback, a descendant of the Platale. These amusingly small, "deer-like" Zemplix can barely even be classified as such anymore: they're completely mouthless, their tongues have fused to their antennae, creating what is basically antlers, they did the Hedron thing and don't even have genders anymore, and if it wasn't for this story, we would never in a million years think this was a Zemplix. And they were slowly dying out too. One by one, from the already-small population of 500, to only a small group of 45, then a small family of merely 4, and then, there was one. The last Lampback. Named Rayyax, "he" wandered about the frozen world, seemingly aware that there were no other Lampbacks anymore. Rayyax stared into the vast, empty sky, and wondered. "Is somebody else out there, also the last of their kind, staring back into the sky, wondering if I exist too?" And to Rayyax' surprise, there was.

I like how this is literally in a completely different creation style from the original Zemplix, making them even LESS recognizable.
