With its moniker given by its all-green paint and complimentary roundels, the F.IV MkI was truly a force to be reckoned with when it entered the field in 1916 for the New Rossian Air Service. Its speed and handling granted it the upper hand in dogfights, and when it wasn’t clearing the skies, it used its great fuel economy for scouting machines, pinpointing dangers ahead of advancing friendlies. The MkI later evolved into the MkII, and later MkIII before finally being retired far into the dawn of the monoplane. It is instantly recognizable in museums, written works, and illustrated works thanks to its clean design and oversized radial engine, housing the four machine guns used to punch holes in the sky above.
