Vanilla Plants Expanded - Mushrooms is an optional module for Vanilla Plants Expanded adding a variety of new mushrooms. One common concern people have expressed is that being a tunneler - or simply living underground - prevents you from obtaining quite a lot of different, important resources.

As such, we come to the rescue. A lot of these mushrooms will fill the empty holes in your tunneler colonies - you will now be able to produce medicine, wood, food, cloth, electricity, meat and even magic mushrooms underground!

None of these mushrooms are inspired by real life mushrooms, but they are all really cool and I’m sure if you give them a chance, they will grow on you.

Q: Do these plants spawn in the wild?
A: Yes, some of them may appear in the wild - mostly in caves!

Q: Does it work alongside virtually any other mushroom mod out there?
A: You bet it does!

Q: How do I plant these mushrooms?
A: Depends which ones. Some grow on dirt, others can grow on rock, others can only grow in flower pots.

Q: Can animals eat them?
A: All mushrooms have nutrition and can be eaten by animals. Some produce fungus that can be eaten.

Q: Can I suggest a feature?
A: Absolutely, leave a comment down below!

Q: Will you keep updating the mod with new types of mushrooms?
A: Potentially!

Q: Is this mod save game compatible?
A: Yes, you can add it and remove it whenever you like.

Q: These plants are totally unrealistic!
A: We need to remember it is a video game, and for the sake of simplicity we decided to abandon realism in some instances. Sometimes realism is just boring, especially in such an unrealistic game. We decided that unique gameplay should be prioritised over realism.

Q: CE compatible?
A: The day mushrooms start firing assault rifles is the day I should stop modding. That being said, we are working on a mushroom-man xenotype, which will fire assault rifles, so maybe I should take that back.

late to the party i do agree that the growing conditions are a bit too gimmicky to not be annoying or useless. personally i've mainly used this mod for thermos and lullas since those end up being very good while easy to understand. bilecaps is absolutely true, they suck and growing them without this specific key that is a slug is awful. as for HT lung rot is preventable through toxic environment resistance, like a gas mask. gene or a mech, but i never found it too useful cause it just grows slower unless completely surrounded by stinkers. and glowcaps have their niche as a light source that doesn't kill nutrifungus so unnatural darkness or you lack the darkness meme to negate the work speed penalty.

I didn't intend to demean your work, sorry. What I mean is that some modules defenitely recieve less attention than others, not that they're abandoned. Yall are working on big releases and I kinda feel that a mod that adds mushrooms is defenitely not top priority, but please, look into a bit of a rebalance with this one.

With bileceps it can be removal of bile dependency if alpha animals is not present. Instead, it can take 2-3 times longer to grow, but not 5% speed it has now.

With healtruffule it's a shame because the stink integration is a great touch, but once again, it makes it almost unusable, unless you want to have a single permanently lung-rotted individual take care of the thing. At this point it's better to bite the bullet and start growing healroot outside. Maybe instead of it relying on rotstink it should check for another mushroom type nearby and get a growth boost from that?

With glowcap I'm kinda at a loss, but imo it needs some more utility besides 'edible light'.

Thought this mod would be great for a self-sustaining tunneler playthrough, unfortunately most of the mushrooms are useless

Starting with bileceps, which straight up requires alpha animals to function.You can't put dump zones over growing zones so just dumping corpses on top of it to get corpse bile doesn't work without crazy amounts of micro. Maybe remove it if no alpha animals installed?

Glowcap. Why does it exist? At first I thought it would be a tribal-friendly sunlamp, but no, its just a worse regular lamp.

And finally, healtruffle. In theory it's amazing and the stinker synergy sounds cool.
Except your planters will get lung rot every time they harvest it and the medicine will be used on treating the same lung rot. And then you'll get throught your entire stockpile cus lung rot lasts for around a week.

I get it that most small vanilla expanded mods are not really maintained that much after release except for version updates, but this one badly needs a rework.

Howdy, would it be easy for you to add a "Blisscap Dependent/resistant/immune" gene set? I'd really like to make an undergrounder themed colony, and one of those genes would make for a WILD xenotype. Thank you!

is there a way to disable the electrical particle effect on the ZapCaps. These are my main source of power and scrolling over my farms causes frame drops? Thanks

PSA: if you use the nutrient paste drippers from VNPE in your hospital, make sure to exclude Bliss Cap from your nutrient paste network.

I found out the hard way.
