USCM Ticonderoga Class Frigate

The Ticonderoga class was a relatively small class of escort ship built and used widely by the United Americas and the United States Colonial Marines during the 2180s. Built by Lunar-Welsun Industries (Weyland Yutani subsidiary), the ship was based on the succesfull frame of the larger Conestoga class assault ship. Freed from the troop and vehicle carrying capacity requirements of its larger cousin, it could pack considerable firepower in a much smaller frame, allowing for considerable cost savings and increased manouverability. Similarly automated, the ship could easily be operated by a single crewman, and was designed for a crew of 5.

A total of 40 ships of the class were built, becoming a popular option for anti piracy patrols in the large american arm.

The ship is designed to engage targets head-on, with thick prow armour and good arcs of fire. With this reduced profile, the ship is capable of evading incoming fire with relative ease at ranges above 800 meters. However, to achieve this speed, the ship side and aft armour is relatively weak.

The small hangar is capable of carrying a single shuttle or fighter, giving the vessel flexibility in what missions it can take on and allowing it to deploy small teams of colonial marines. Due to the frontal location of the hangar, it was somewhat common for ships expecting to enter combat to drop their shuttles in safe spaces, to avoid their destruction if the prow armour was penetrated. Ships have been known to also use their airlock connectors to expand their fighter capacity.
