HMS Hood (1:5 scale)

HMS Hood (pennant number 51) was the last battlecruiser built for the royal navy, her keel being laid in 1916 and the ship being commissioned in 1920. The ship had a mostly uneventful career until the start of World War Two when she saw limited action before her destruction, partaking in the destruction of the French fleet at Mers El Kebir but the ship mostly stayed in home waters until late may 1941 when the HMS Hood (51) along with the brand new HMS Prince Of Wales (53) sailed out to intercept the German battleship Bismarck. At 5:50am May 24th 1941 HMS Hood fired the first salvo's of the battle of the Denmark strait. Her first salvo's straddling the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, Prince Of Wales opened fire and scored the first hits on the Bismarck when 3 shells struck the ship doing minimal damage other than a fuel leak. At 5:55am the German ships returned fire, focusing on the Hood. The Prinz Eugen scored a hit on the Hood starting a fire on her deck and Bismarck landing several near hits on the battlecruiser while the ships drew closer. just before 6:00am Bismarck's 5th salvo crashed all around Hood with 1 or more shells penetrating into the 15 inch powder magazine causing a flash fire which quickly built pressure inside the hull and causing the gasses to vent out of the engine room's ventilation ducts relieving pressure temporarily but causing a huge tower of flame to erupt around the main mast shooting hundreds of feet into the air however the pressure built up too quickly again and Hood exploded and sank 3 minutes later taking 1,415 of her 1,418 crew down with her.
