Originally created for the SHIELD navy, after HYDRA seizes power in the SHIELD, the developments on this project fell into the hands of the USSR. There, the submarines received the nickname "Varshavyanka-2" for their external similarity to the Project 877 submarines. The boats were adopted by the Navy and underwent several upgrades: according to operational experience, radio-electronic and sonar equipment was replaced with more modern, the power of the engine was increased by 2 times. During her service in the Navy, the submarine participated in several campaigns, battles and exercises. Basically, the boats carried out training missions, but they have one destroyer sunk in battle. Gutter press said that there is also at least one accidentally sunk allied submarine on the account of this project in addition to enemy ships. The Armed Forces of the USSR do not comment on these rumors in any way. Unsatisfactory survivability due to irrationally located compartments, insufficient armament for its displacement, coupled with difficulties in management, predetermined its future fate. The modernization of this project was deemed impractical. The boats of this project will be replaced by submarines of the new line of diesel submarines, which, with much more modest dimensions, surpass them both in armament and in driving qualities.
