Welcome back, commanders! If you used the WH2 version of this mod, then you know what the deal is. For everyone else, read on:




If you are playing as any of the High Elfs (yes, even Tyrion) and if you have an Archmage with a unit slot open, then a very curious bastiladon might come find you... but in a world this dangerous, does Gary have even a ghost of a chance of surviving??


For High Elf players

  • [blink]YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF GARY.[/blink] That means:
    1. Keep Gary alive. If Gary dies, he will come back after a random cooldown, assuming you have at least one archmage who has a unit slot open. This may take 3 to 13 turns because Gary is a big boy; he needs time to recuperate.
    2. Keep Gary away from Rakarth. Rakarth will try to kidnap Gary.
    3. Keep Gary away from Norscans. The Norscans will sacrifice Gary to earn the favor of their Dark Gods.
    4. If you don't see Gary, please make sure your archmage has less than 20 units. (The random chance of him arriving means that he won't always go to the first elf if you're in a multiplayer campaign with more than 1 Asur faction.)
    5. Keep Gary away from the Sword of Khaine. You have been warned.
    6. Don't sign any treaties with Markus Wulfhart or Yuan Bo. Both are really mean to Lizardmen for no reason.
  • The mission to obtain the Book of Gary will trigger once you get at least one province capital to level 3.
  • The mission to obtain the Tail Club of Khaine will trigger once you have access (by ownership, vassalage, or allyship) to the Shrine of Khaine.
  • The quest line to assist the Lizardmen will trigger roughly 5 turns after you sign a treaty of any kind with any Lizardmen faction:
    1. Ally with a Lizardmen faction.
    2. Build an outpost in a Lizardmen ally's settlement.
    3. Declare war on an enemy of one of your Lizardmen allies.
    4. Win a battle against a specific enemy.
    5. Destroy a specific enemy.
  • If you can complete this quest line, then Gary will be called upon to follow the Old Ones' plan.

Note: you must own The Warden and The Paunch DLC to recruit an Archmage (any type).


For Dark Elf players

Rakarth has ample reason to hunt Gary: the bestest bastiladon doesn't realize that what he knows about his Lizardmen brethren are secrets that the Druchii can use against them!

Note that only Rakarth and his beastmasters are clever enough to keep Gary under control! In other words, if you're not playing as the Thousand Maws, your chances of kidnapping Gary drastically go down.

Note: you must own The Shadow and The Blade DLC to recruit a High Beastmaster. Rakarth is free via Total War Access.


For Norscan players

Gary is too pure for this world, and the Dark Gods are appeased only by slaughter! Eliminate Gary, and you will be amply blessed.

Note that Gary does not appear in the Monstrum Arcanum, but do not let that fool you into thinking the rewards for murdering Gary will be meagre! Unbelievers will be shunned.

Note: you must own the Norsca DLC to play as either Throgg or Wulfrik.


For all other factions

You may see Gary derping around Ulthuan. If you ally with the faction that has Gary, you may get dragged into a war when the Druchii and/or Norscans come calling.


COMPATIBILITY

This is not save-game compatible! Please start a new campaign!

This is a script mod. It should be compatible with everything, however if you ask "Is it compatible with X?" the answer is "I have not tested it with X, therefore I do not know."

This should be multiplayer compatible, however I do not have a 2nd PC that can play WH3 so I can't be sure.

I have absolutely no idea whether these mods work, but you may want to give them a try:

This mod is compatible with ChaosRobie's The Old World Campaign with the obvious caveat that there is no Tail Club of Khaine since there's no way to rearch the Shrine of Khaine.

Little necro for anyone trying to find where Turin names Gary (and George!! GEORGE HAS BEEN FORGOTTEN!) - it's in his video "Lizardmen vs Vampire Counts | LASER LIZARDS - Total War Warhammer 2" at 9:02 and then again at 11:49 "Gary and George the tag team dream"

@Chocolate [AN] - you're not gonna believe this, but there isn't an easy way to tell whether a character is recruiting units. If that happens, there's a very real possibility that character's army could wind up with > 20 units, a problem that repeatedly plagued my Sisters of Averland mod. Maybe the function would be better named might_have_unit_slot_open
