I once used a piston with a connector and it was a disaster ;-;

Another option for the landing pad connector, if you play with mods, would be to use the flat connector mod or any mod with a full cube connector to sink it in the floor. This method would be used more on the users end instead of the main blueprint though.

@Ronin, Good idea! I will do this on mine. This kind of thing I prefer that everyone does their own thing, I'm no expert on the subject and it would certainly be a tragedy if no one told me these details. Thanks!

If you put the connector on a hinge you can put it away if you want to land something flat on that pad. The trick is to lock the hinge before attaching a ship else it'll buck like a mechanical bull. I've set the lower and upper limits to be the same to "lock" the hinge. But I suspect you can just use the "lock" button. I have a large grid mobile refinery in my workshop that uses the concept if you are interested.
