DESCRIPTION

The Agustawestland AW265 "Gyrfalcon" is a Super Medium Multirole Helicopter designed to replace the AW260 "Gryphon" in the troop transport and maritime patrol role. The "Gyrfalcon" is an advanced helicopter that is the culmination of technologies and safety features of numerous other assets. The primary operator of the "Gyrfalcon" is the Newquay Marine Corps and Special Forces Regiments, operating from Assault Ships and Aircraft Carriers allowing for the transport of up to 16 Troops in standard configuration and 32 Troops with a central row of seats, or additional equipment crates, to support amphibious landings and raiding missions, to which its weapons pylons on either side afford it the ability to mount substantial firepower and top speed of 190 knots allows it to get into and out of a fight quickly. It also contains the AN/ALQ-250 Onboard Jamming System allowing for a special unit to be capable of being inserted into a zone while preventing a potential enemies radio communication. The Gyrfalcon is also a competent platform for Search & Rescue operations with its rear winch, which has seen the aircraft be successful in civilian applications, in particular with both Newquay Search and Rescue and the Exford Coastwatch Service.
