Many of us have always feel a bit disappointed by the various choices of vanilla in terms of both flavour, lore and balance, so we gathered here a group of people to create a mod that

- Would list the National Ideas in historical order
- Would aim for an internal and external balance
- Would still maintain full compatibility with Vanilla ideas

Right now Historical National Ideas features more than 400 reworked National Ideas all around the world, with both national ideas for

Colonial Nations
Formables

Formables
Some nations have been granted special national ideas based on the primary culture of the formable and will present a variation

1. Commonwealth [-Lithuania -Poland ]
2. Netherlands [-Dutch -Flemish -Frisian ]
3. Russia [-Muscovy -Novgorod ]
4. Greece [-Greek -Latin ]
5. Jerusalem [-Knights -Latin ]
6. Holy Roman Empire [-Burgundy -Bohemia -Habsburg -Latin ]
7. Germany-Revolutionary
8. Italy [-Crusader -Dynastic -Maritime -Republican -Lombard -Sardinian -Sicilian]
9. Spain [-Andalucian -Aragonese -Basque -Castilian -Catalan -Galician -Leonese -Portuguese ]
10. Maya [-Mayapan, -Cocomes]
11. Roman Empire [-Byzantine, -Chao, -Italian]

Colonial Nations

The idea was to create a variation of the Colonial ideas based on the primary culture of the nation forming, in this way the various colonial nation won't feel similar

1. Colonial-British
2. Colonial-Dutch
3. Colonial-Latin
4. Colonial-Portuguese
5. Colonial-Spanish

Vanilla Compatibility
Remember, this mod does not edit any vanilla file for maximum compatibility.

We can understand how you might not like our design choices, therefore Historical National Ideas has created a Decision/Interface Button *Swap National Ideas* which will grant you the ability to swap between HIE and Vanilla idea groups!

How does it work?

1. Every nation that has Historical Ideas Expanded set will start with HIE ideas [they will be the default]
2. The decision will allow you to swap between Vanilla and HIE ideas up to 2 times per each age
3. In this way you will be able to see what are your vanilla ideas and, if you want to return to HIE ideas, swap back

This decision is allowed 2 times for every tag, so when you change country [for example from Venice to Italy] you will be able to choose for both of them which ideas you want to keep.

Firstly, as a modder myself I must commend the scope and quality of this project. But I have a few critiques/queries.

[1] Why do so many nations lose their CCR benefits? The Mughals are given +5% Adm Eff. But -25% CCR is superior, in that it shortens the coring time and was actually a tradition so unlocked instantly. Rome on the other hand lost both its -20% CCR and +5% Adm Eff. Both super powerful ideas, if you managed to form Rome.
[2] Why does artillery in some cases like Mewar have a shock bonus? Like Artillery Shock +0.25 is basically negligible as an idea, cause only half of that will be applied which is +0.125, during the shock phase.
[3] Certain ideas feel like a downgrade from the prior tag. Like Rajputana versus Mewar is actually kind of a downgrade, you lose the War Score Cost, ICA, in return you get +1 Prestige. Rajputana doesn't even get an extended mission tree, having better ideas is the only thing they had going for them in vanilla.

Hey, I'm having an issue with one of the mods in the Expanded Family - I have no idea which one causes it, but when I click on the construction icon on the top left my game just crashes

Sorry for late reply, but I formed Egypt using using the Mamluk mission tree.

But with the idea bug, I wasn't clear enough. I was still Mamluks and I'm unsure when it happened, but at some point I was look at my ideas and I noticed I had the vanilla Mamluk ideas instead of Historical, even though I started with Historical Mamluk ideas, which turned into Arabian ideas when I click the change ideas button that is in the ideas window that comes with this mod, so I press it again and it became Historical Mamluk ideas

So, the timelines is: Start as Mamluks with Historical Ideas --> Ideas changed to Vanilla Mamluks ideas at some point --> Became Arabian ideas when I click button --> Became Historical ideas again after clicking the button a 2nd time --> a long time after I formed Egypt, noticed it was Vanilla and came here to ask about it.

No, Egypt does not have HIE ideas, so when swapping to it you should get the "Egyptian Ideas" from vanilla.
Now though, getting the Mamluks ideas is strange as hell :T

Did you actually form Egypt or did the game just gave it the name Egypt?
A thing to be clear would be if you had the Egypt flag

Does Egypt not have Historical Ideas or did it bug out for me? I did notice that my ideas randomly changed to vanilla when without me pressing the button, then I press the button and it changed to Arabian for some reason, and when I press the button a 2nd time it changed to historical mamluks ideas.

Oh right, ET also changes the idea GUI to add more idea groups...
I'll re-enable the decision to make so you can use it if ET is enabled and thus not losing the ability to swap idea sets


I was never able to make the preview work for modded ideas, only for vanilla ones...

We do have our handy bot on the discord that does have all the HIE national ideas as well as all the Vanilla non-generic ones (:

When used with extended timeline the idea UI glithes, it would be nice to have a preview of ideas before changing traditions and ambitions
