描述
M4 Sherman VC Firefly 1/1 Scale [STW]

This vehicle is a 1/1 Replica of the Sherman VC Firefly, a British modification of the American export M4A4 chassis, with a modified engine and turret.

Short History
The Yellow triangle signifies that this tank is a part of the A Squadron (yellow) of the Royal Armoured Corp. The Sherman VC was used as a stop gap tank to try and combat the more heavily armoured tanks which the Germans had begun fielding. So the British decided to try and mount the 17-Pounder 76.2mm gun onto a more reliable Sherman Chassis. However, this required the radio to be moved outside of the turret and into a box poking out of the back of the turret. As well as this a more power was required to transport the heavier gun, and so multiple car engines were strapped together in order to achieve this. Now a larger cannon required a larger gun and so the assistant driver was viewed as obsolete, and instead he was replaced with extra ammunition for the gun.

I have tried to make this tank as accurate as possible meaning that in certain areas it is not the most user friendly, this includes the fact that the driver and assistant driver view port require you to be a female character to look through.

Armament:
-76mm 17 QF-17 Pounder Cannon
2 Option Zoom Scope
8.7 Second Reload
14 Shells

Mobility:
-24mph Forwards
-5mph Reverse (although you won't need it, British Tanks don't retreat)
-Brake Steering
-Realistic Transmission with reverse gear
-Realistic engine properties and overheating mechanics
-8 Cylinders

Start Up Sequence:
1. Move into Driver’s Position
2. Turn Electricity On
3. Turn On Instrument Panel Light Switch
4. Reset all breakers using the top switches
5. Turn On Magneto’s
6. Turn On Starter Motor (Wait 5 seconds then turn off)
7. Increase the Throttle (Bear in mind that constant max throttle use will cause the engine to overheat)
The Engine is Now Running

How to get moving:
1. Increase the clutch value on the left panel to 0.35
2. Ensure Throttle is full by holding throttle increase for 5 seconds
3. Turn on booster Switch
4. Turn Off parking Brake on Right
5. Turn Off Booster switch
6. Increase Clutch up to maximum value (Careful to not stall engine)

You are now moving at the maximum speed (This maximum throttle is not sustainable for the wear on the engine and can cause overheating, there is an automatic stop if the engine overheats but you will need to wait for it to cool down)

When turning the Tank, it is recommended to lower the Clutch slightly to decrease wear on the engine and prevent stalling, although not necessary on shorter turns at maximum speed
Use of Turret and Gun

When using the turret and gun ensure that the drivers hatch and the assistant drivers hatch is closed, otherwise the gun with be prevented from the full 360 traverse.
To reload the loader must open the key labelled ‘Open Breach’ they can then insert the shell into breach and then close it.

Firing the Gun
The gun controls are very self-explanatory, with there being a 2 variable zoom scope and loaded indicator

Commanders Position
Reflecting the cramped space inside the real Sherman Firefly, due to the larger 17 Pounder gun, the commander is lacking a seat, although this was only a feature in some Sherman Fireflies. However the Commander has access to his own hatch so he can catch some fresh, damp European air and view the surroundings using his binoculars, he also has access to a radio which is very easy to use, as well as a clock (for telling the time of course).

Other
There is a light switch in the driver position which turns on two dome lights inside the tank and the headlights as well as red rear lights.
To refuel the tank all you need to do is ensure the magneto switch is on and attach a hose to the attachment point on the rear engine deck of the tank
There is an engine access hatch at the rear of the tank, although reflect its real-life counter part it is small and gives little access for repairs
There are some extra fuel tanks on the back, having researched British Tank diaries many of them wanted to carry their own water, bedding and supplies on their tank so they did not have to wait for supply convoys and so I have tried to replicate this on this tank.
