You need to download this additional file for more variants (scale variants)

Extract the files in "Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\workshop\materials/"

This is an animated texture, in order to make it work you need to add the following parameters to your model`s ".vmt" file or the animation will NOT work. Make sure to paste the following text at the end of your ".vmt" file.

You will need "VTFedit" to open your models ".vmt" file. This is not a tutorial so i will assume you have experience making materials, editing ".vmt" & ".vtf" files and so on.

Paste this at the end of your model ".vmt" file:

Description


A pack of different normal maps (even though people call the bump maps) with different animations, can be used for water effects, rain effects, etcetera. The textures are meant to be used using override materials.






FREQUENT QUESTIONS AND TROUBLESHOOT

> The bumpmap works in my model but it doesnt move at all!

This may be caused by the following:

> A mistake in your .vmt parameters, be very careful, one single mistake in the parameters and the animation will not work.

> Conflicting commands, in this case, use the reference ".vmt" in the description and start adding one by one any aditional commads you use to find the one that`s causing the problem.

> Having multiple versions of the same model, especially if those versions have similar texture folders names, since SFM will default to the folder that's higher-up in your "game" hierarchy.

> The bumpmaps look too stretched / too big!

Use a variant, for example: "Streak_water_2x" or "Streak_water_3x", remember to download the file in the description for different texture sizes.


> Can i rotate the bumpmap direction?

Yes, kinda, using $basetexture transform, however, this will rotate the whole material and not only the bump map.


> Why do the bump maps in my model look distorted or deformed?


This is an issue in your model`s UV maps, if the UV maps are a mess do not expect them to look good.


> Why just 1024x1024 ? Can you upload 4K versions?


While SFM supports 4K animated bumpmaps they are very buggy and unstable due to engine limitations and may lead to a session corruption or lots of crashes.


> How can i make the animation faster/slower?

Change "animatedtextureframerate" value to a higher or lower number.

dose not work any more the bumpmaps dont laod on models anymore yah might want to fix that.

if 4K is too much for sfm then why you don't try 2k?
it can be really useful and can work without any issues

I hope this isn't a stupid question. But where does this addon get downloaded to exactly cause I'm having trouble finding it.

@Osha Lominsa, you can change the source vmt file inside SFM (Check override materials tutorials) however, you still need to add the "proxies" commands in your vmt file in order for the animation to work.

This is definitely neat. I did manage to get it to work, but it seems to come at the cost of the original file. I'm still learning how to do these fancy tricks but I didn't want to perma change the original vtm, so I created a copy. "Face_d 2" for example.

But unless sfm has an in-game command to let me change the source vtm on a model I don't think that's gonna work. Might just have to back up the original every time I use this.
