Since the beginning of the upgrade of the old motley fleet of mining ships to a new unified fleet designed according to the requirements of Consolidation, the miners expected to see the upcoming replacement of the obsolete Ferret class mining ship produced by Exo Mining Rigs. A short time after the launch of the Rokiclaw class ships into mass production, OPC released its younger brother - a model called Stoneclaw was created as a cheaper, but not inferior in performance mining platform. Using unlike the older brother only one crew member, this model was supposed to occupy a specific niche within the Consolidation - namely, the role of an auxiliary vessel for the new Monticlaw mining platform, but also very interested in the market outside of OPC. Rookie miners and small organizations that do not have enough funds to buy and operate Rokiclaw and even more so Monticlaw have found in this vessel all the qualities they need at an affordable price.
Built for the production of civilian vessels, the Ontosh orbital shipyards during the first five years of their operation were forced to produce only Stoneclaw class ships due to high demand on both local and global markets.
