Tell me, Dr. Freeman, if you can. You have destroyed so much. What is it, exactly, that you have created? Can you name even one thing? I thought not.

Welcome to the remain of City 17

gm_toxicair take place in the aftermath of the destruction of the citadel's portal and the fall of Wallace Breen.
Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance are still missing and nowhere to be seen after the massive explosion on the top of the citadel.
While both rebel and combine are fleeing the city before the big transmission, the long ago crowed city is now a ghost town with only the hapless deceased citizen as the remaining resident.

Features

This map was initialy a testing map to handle hammer tool, but over time, I had more and more ideas, and those ideas were made until I'v done everything in mind.
I tried to make a roleplay compatible map with everything necesserary for it.

In this map you can find:
  • Abandonned combine warehouse / Citadel interior
  • Still working traintrack
  • Canal section
  • Antlion's nest
  • CP outpost and ration distribution center
  • Backyard
  • Multiple apartement
  • Sewer and underground section

This map also host 4 visual event
  • A passing razor train
  • Moving combine wall at the canal section
  • HL1EP1 Kleiner's speech ( Can only be manually triggered )
  • Citadel transmission
Automated event can also be disable, a special button to delete timer required for the automation of the event can be found at this devroom. The only way to bring back the timer is to cleanup everything !

And yes, this map is fully ai noded, have cubemap and navmesh built.

Minor issues

There's some minor bug I still try to fix:
  1. The moving combine wall can have his sound and animation unsynch
  2. The rear spotlight of the razortrain sometimes stuck midair

as of today I got multiples projects to finish that will most likely take months before I finish them, perhaps after that I could start to think about a sequel to toxicair as perhaps my final map

i got an idea on how you could do a sequel, if you want you can make it close to the citadel or not, and basicaly have the same features but you can add a human train that passes by instead of only a combine train that would be cool

A Gmod update broke it, and since I lost the vmf of the map, I have no possibilities to fix it anymore... Guess it will stay broken up until another update make it work somehow

if you're making an epic new map, it'd be sick to see some more of your lil lore and story touches. environmental storytelling, graffiti etc.
makes the maps fun to explore with friends :)

Sadly there are no other more updated software to create map on Garry's mod, there's Hammer++, a modification made by a user that aim to make the software more modern, but even with this upgrade it's still very outdated compared to the more modern engine suc has UE5 or Unity

Actually the more you work on it and effort you put on it the more the map will be better than the old ones, I know making maps is genuinely hell but I get what you mean is there any new version you'll use instead of the outdated one?
