I had to remove the grenades and chemlight from my inventory to get the other option to appear. eg. I dropped the smokes and chemlights so I can create a tripwire grenade. Then when I pick the chemlights and smokes back up, I couldn't attach the smoke or chemlight until I dropped or got rid of all of my frags.
I can see this being perfect against pvp situations maybe, against AI i can see it working to a point, but thing is if AI know your location, basically can shoot at you but cant hit you, putting up smoke only works until you change position and leave the area, because the AI tracks you up to a point, so this can work just you have to follow through on your tactics and get out of there if you do use it.
Just a thought, lastly if anyone is interested in knowing what the AI actually do in terms of function and features for tactics and other things, i have a compilation list for that which is a massive changelog of all the AI additions, and functions since the release of the game,
