STEAMSHIP “L’HANOÏ”
A Fictional Passenger Steamship


History

Following the French Conquest of Vietnam, the demand for trade between France and her new colony became extreme, and thus the Compagnie de Navigation Indochinoise was established. In the Autumn of 1881, the Steamship “L’HANOÏ” was launched to service the routes out of Saïgon in competition with the Messageries Maritimes. With cozy interiors and an accompaniment of both steam and sail power, “L’HANOÏ” proved to be a comfortable, albeit less popular, alternative.

“L’HANOÏ” faithfully served the Compagnie de Navigation Indochinoise for upwards of two decades until her demise in the Summer of 1904. Onboard a routinely crossing, the steamer was caught in increasingly deteriorating conditions which left very poor visibility for the crew. As the time passed six, “L’HANOÏ” struck rock and quickly began taking on water. Only one lifeboat was successfully sent away before the steamer plunged beneath the waves, leaving much of her passenger complement to the sea.

This creation was made with primarily aesthetics in mind (made possible thanks to the work of ilp0tt1 & zuiquan12), therefore it is bound to experience issues in survival and otherwise harsh situations so do be careful. Very loosely inspired by the "Cephalonia" and the steamers of the Messageries Maritimes.
