The SS Mersey was the 2nd ship to sport the name, and she was named after the river Mersey, which she served on. In 1890, she had to sail back to her shipyard for a refit to protect passengers in rainfall. In 1909, she received an extra deck to provide more service at once, and in 1914, she carried a celebrity on board the RMS Congo 1. She was planned to be scrapped in 1914, but war broke out. She helped by tendering troops out to large liners, such as the HMT Amazon. Once the war ended, she was laid up until 1921, when she was purchased by a different company. In 1926, she caught fire and burned, but thankfully did not capsize. Due to her old age, and charred hull, it was with heart-breaking news that the "Mini Mersey", as she was nicknamed, was sold for scrap. The following week, many watched the small reliable tender beach for scrapping at Wirral, Liverpool.
