Postal Service Offices by zu_primo

Built in 1986, this building used to host Correos' Offices in the City of Malaga (Málaga), Spain, until it was abandoned in 2010.
It's time to restore it to its former glory.

Looks like a soviet era tower or something, definitely inspired by brutalist architecture.

If you're curious, the actual building is in 36°42'58.3"N 4°25'36.4"W. Despite being reinforced concrete, the proximity to the sea and the salinity has damaged the exterior of the building, so it was covered with a safety net. It was bought in 2019 and they're planning to restore it, local news articles say it will most likely be a hotel. So it could have a happy ending after all.

It wasn't "abandoned" per se - it was deemed surplus to requirements to Correus and different government offices couldn't agree on the price to transfer ownership from Correus for nine years (!). The current Israeli owner got it cheaply because there was a restriction over future use (it had to be a public service building), so his initial application for use as a hotel was turned down. He re-applied with the use being changed to a private hospital which was approved - latest stories in the local press indicate that thanks to "changes in the law" he'll get his hotel after all. Of course, Malaga doesn't really need another hotel - but it could have become an office block providing year round employment rather than seasonal employment for a few - there's 5,000 m2 of space in that building.

Brutal edificio, me recuerda allá cuando era un fulano de pocas tierras y el gran y amado líder nos regaló tal majestuoso edificio. Larga Vida a Correos!
