F1 1986 Historical Edition Cars

The F1 1986 Historical Edition from the Historical Modding Team is a faithful recreation of the most brutal of the turbo-era cars. Each vehicle has been created independently with absolute care and attention to detail, for the most authentic experience possible.

Williams FW11 - V1.25

Undoubtedly the technological marvel of 1986, it was the first car to use modern computing in its design, and set the groundwork for the lower, sleeker, and more efficient cars in the years that followed. The research carried out by Honda was carried out in complete secrecy to those at Williams. The Honda V6, with variable geometry turbos, would provide the efficiency to allow Williams to run the majority of the race around 900bhp, making it the most capable race engine. Nigel Mansell was set to win the championship until his tyre exploded spectacularly in the last few minutes of the final round in Adelaide.


Mclaren MP4/2C - V1.25

The championship winning McLaren was at the end of it's development and struggled to keep up with the competition all season. Consistency and shear luck rewarded Alain Prost the title in one of the closest and nail biting title fights in the history of Formula One.





Brabham BT55 - V1.25

This car shares a variation of the BMW power plant in the Benetton B186, although the differentiating factor - being tilted 72 degrees on it's side in order to optimise the cars aerodynamics - was the cars major downfall. It could never quite achieve a decent race pace due to cooling problems and gear box issues, and was a project best forgotten by it's designers. However, it's futuristic low slung aesthetic was a noble attempt at a championship winning car, and it's unusual attributes suggest that with the right engine, this car could have had a damn good shot at the title.






Benetton B186 - V1.25

The Benetton B186 was powered by the four-cylinder BMW M12/13/1, and is considered to be the most powerful Formula One car ever produced. Heroic qualifying laps from Gerhard Berger showed the world what 1300bhp looks like in a car weighing little over half a tonne. The car, when it worked, performed well during the races, but reliability issues, and the technical sophistication and efficiency of the Honda, Porsche and Renault v6 Turbo engines left the Benetton team rarely able to glimpse at the podium.
