I present to you a new screenshot/sandbox/roleplay map!

Night time version now available here!

//Requirements//
Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the bsp. The map file itself should be "gm_c17trainstation_prewar", minus the quotation marks.

//Gameplay//
  • Cleaned up the train station and removed all the Combine stuff to fit the new pre-war aesthetic.
  • Lighting fixed and added across the map
  • A few back office and storage areas
  • Two train bays, one under construction/renovation
  • A few interactive sinks/toilets
  • Three enterable shops (two of which are kiosks). Ticketing booth is also enterable.
  • Explorable train yard
  • Spring/summer time setting
  • AI Nodes. Should work with almost all AI.

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

//Development//
This concept was something that I had tossed around several years ago. Eventually I started a concept map but it's scale was a bit too big for what I could do, so it got shelved. Fast forward to the release of Trains Station District and people wanted to see a pre-war cleaned up version of the station.

So, with some extra experience under my belt and a bit more focus I managed to re-approach the idea and make it a lot better than what I had originally tried.

Part of how I decided how to clean things up was to take a look at textures used. I noticed hidden trims and missing paint and tried to search for textures that were as close as possible to what I thought they would look like cleaned. The wrapping around the bottom of the wall required multiple more brushes in order to get to a 'clean' state. The red detail at the top of many walls came from the flecks of red I noticed in the original dirty texture.

I previewed part of the map in a breakdown I did of the train station I did here.
