The Tirpitz, or Alfred von Tirpitz, is the largest afloat battleship in Europe and the largest warship of the Kriegsmarine built at the Kriegsmarinewerft shipyard. It was launched by Adolf Hitler on 1 April 1939 in Wilhelmshaven, Lower Saxony, and sunk on 12 November 1944.
