S.S. Altona

The SS Altona was the second ship owned by the Smakkacow River and Ocean Line, the keel was laid in 1890 and the ship was completed in 1891. She served the New York - Southampton Atlantic route. In 1894 the ship was upgraded with new davits and the pontoons were removed as they were no longer needed. She served a wonderful career until 1901. The ship took a different route to celebrate the 10 year anniversary.

They were sailing past the British Virgin Isles for sightseeing when the hull struck rocks. Sections of the hull were damaged and weak, but it was not noticable to the crew. Eventually about a mile out, the damage burst open and started flooding the ship. She quickly took a 25-30 degree list, enough to put the deck in the water. The damage in the bow and stern caused the ship to go down in a measly four minutes. Captain "A Normal Commentor" realized the ship was going down as soon as the ship started to list. He ordered the passengers board the boats and the lifeboats to be launched as soon as possible. Most drowned in their cabins, but 3 people survived. They were Liam T. Sharpe, Railroad,Preserver,2000, and The Red Creator. Out of 84 passengers, 81 died.
