Welcome to Lartigue's Upscaled Project! It is a simple mod that drastically enhances ingame texture quality, achieved through AI Upscaling!
PSA: This mod is aimed at >1080p players. With FHD or less monitors, you're very unlikely to notice any change (except the disk size eaten up by your installation!).

Please keep in mind that this mod isn't compatible out-of-the-box with several other UI and artwork replacement mods, such as CIUI, DaddyPika's replacements, etc…
However, with a bit of tinkering you can make CIUI compatible with LUP, here's how (thanks to Queeg who did the testing):
  1. Go to C:\Users\<your name>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings III\mod\LUP_Alpha\gfx\interface.
  2. Locate the event_window folder and either delete or rename it, it's up to you.
  3. You're done, CIUI is now compatible with LUP!

This workaround should also work for other mod conflicts, but in every case, the first thing to do is to set whichever mod you prefer at a higher priority than the other one in the conflict.


It's basically a texture replacement mod, but unlike its counterparts, it keeps vanilla color palettes, saturation, etc… and only boasts upscaled artworks for a crisper, higher-resolution gameplay experience. Most of them have been upscaled at a 100% factor, as higher values would have resulted in a way bigger file size, for little to no improvement against the base 100% factor on gaming monitors. It was achieved through Topaz Gigapixel AI's software.
And of course, all of this is 100% ironman compatible!

First of all, I am yet to figure out how to upscale terrain textures without f***ing things up. So, for now, terrain textures are unchanged. But I'm planning to find a workaround, and release an update for this.
Now, about things that are actually improved. The vast majority of artworks, thumbnails, banners, backgrounds, traits, etc…
Other smallers icons were left untouched, as their display size and resolution seemed good enough to me (but I might consider upscaling them as well, if there is a demand).
Please feel free to report me any texture left out, or provide any useful feedback!



- Proper implementation for cloth textures, once I figure out how to resolve shader issues.
- Terrain textures! I found how to upscale them properly, but ingame they still look odd, with strange shadows and black holes all around the map.
- Minor UI elements (not a necessity and probably tedious, but still, it'll be done somewhere down the line).
- Who knows? Probably even more!

  • LUP is now 1.1 compatible!
  • Added upscaled files for new 1.1 UI elements.
  • Removed some files no longer used by the game.
  • Removed some files not properly displaying because of internal changes made by the 1.1 patch. Will look on that later.
  • Made minor adjustments to smaller illustrations, so as to reduce oversharpening. Let me know if it isn't enough!

  • Added …\gfx\coat_of_arms\colored_emblems upscaled UI elements. Coat of arms are now fully upscaled!

  • Fixed some files not properly exported in the root folders. (thanks to AstroCat)
  • Added …\gfx\interface\coat_of_arms upscaled UI elements (mostly visible in the Dynasty window).

@Constantinus: it's flagged as outdated because I didn't change the version number since, well... a while! But it should work just fine. However, there are large parts of the game that are uncovered, as I haven't updated it in a while. But I've seen what the newest version of Topaz is capable of and I'm considering to redo it from scratch!

I played a lot of the Northern Lords pack but I haven't started working on the update yet, I'll be doing it in the next few days.
The mod is still working though, it just doesn't includes NL art yet.

This looks great on the paintings used for holdings and event backgrounds and stuff like that, but unfortunately the smaller icons and things like cultural innovations end up looking worse than the originals due to the over-sharpening of the upscaling.

The CIUI mod does not change the events_window icons but just uses some of them as replacements for the icons on the character screen. This mod increases the size of the icons and causes some misalignment. Not the fault of either mod - just happens.

I just delete the event_window folder from this mod and both work fine together.

@Queeg: have you tried giving CIUI a higher priority than LUP? It usually fixes most mod incompatibilites of that sort.

Latest version is not compatible with the CIUI mod. Some of the icons in the in the mod character screen (right-hand side in vanilla; top of character screen in mod) are misaligned. I think the conflict is in some of the event-window icons. Removing that folder from this mod corrects the problem.
