The Fading Light of V'landriel

描述
Currently outdated for No Step Back, you have to revert to Battle for the Bosphorus in order to play this until I manage to work in the new supply systems.

This is a work-in-progress mod representing the main conflict and setting of the world of V'landriel, based on a fictional story written by myself. I hope to bring this mod to its eventual full immersive potential, however I am only one person and hope you will bear with me for the time it takes to complete this huge undertaking. For now, I hope you enjoy trying everything I have completed so far!

-----

A long time ago, a golden age prevailed in the world of V’landriel. Adventurers traveled across the realms, and from them arose great heroes. Mighty and ancient races clashed on the battlefield, elves and dwarves, humans and orks, halflings and ogres alike. Brotherhoods were forged, and many quests for the destiny of kings and peoples were undertaken. All who lived in this time knew it was an age of glory. Honour was found in arms and service as knights, in wizardry and mastery of powerful magicks, in communion with nature and spirits. Many names reside still in the books of lore of the great and mighty.

When a golden age such as that passes, when its luster begins to fade, how does the world move on? What, indeed, is the bravery of heroes worth in an age where it is set against the swift, cold, and merciless delivery of mechanized death?

-----

The Fading Light of V'landriel poses this question: what happens when the worlds of fantasy races finally progress past medieval technology? What would a world like that look like? Elven decadence is taken to its utmost extreme in the form of the main superpower of this story: the Yllendyr Imperial Sovereignty, a nation of dark elves bent on conquest of the whole world to remove any potential 'barbarian' threats. This nation, colloquially called the 'Imperium,' has successfully subjugated the many nations and races of the Europe-analogue continent of this world, Onindyr. However, such a hegemony cannot exist forever, and forces lurking beneath the surface of their ever-compliant puppet governments are waiting for their opportunity to strike and revise the status quo. The aging Emperor, Naerzo the Conqueror, will soon die and if things go wrong - and they will - the Yllendyr hegemony may be in jeopardy.

Play as the Imperium and attempt to overcome the challenge of a catastrophic civil war and independence movements alike, and reassert your hegemony for another century to come. Or, play as one of the Thirteen Dominions, the Imperium's vassal states, and attempt to guide your nation's path for one of the two opposing sides. Will you support the Imperium in its quest for global domination? Will you support reform in order to change the Imperium to a peaceful confederation from within? Or will you choose the riskiest path of all, and oppose the Imperium and all its might to become independent? Finally, some independent states still exist in the world across the continents of Soiryndia and Mondalia, but they all are lagging behind the dominant Imperium in technology and development. Perhaps you can lead one of them to become a great power in their own right, and conquer the Imperium for yourself. All of these things and more will be possible in this mod in its final incarnation.

Current Version: 0.5 Alpha (Fourth Update)

- Features -

Brand new map with newly defined states, strategic regions, and supply areas.
States on the continents of Onindyr (far west) and Soiryndia (centre) have been all coded with new names, populations, cores, buildings, resources, and victory points.
Nations on these continents have all been coded with designated capitals, research, starting divisions and navies, and initial political parties and leaders.
New equipment, division types, and technologies, with tech trees reworked to be more appropriate to the starting date and lore.
National focus trees completed for: The Imperial Yllendyr Sovereignty, Celestial Empire of Amrea, Kremish Dynasty, Vershellen, Ahnreich, Endaria.
National focus trees mostly completed for the remaining Thirteen Dominions.
The Imperium's structure has all been implemented, with unique autonomy mechanics for its vassal states. The main war changes dynamically from game to game, as each nation has a chance of picking one of two sides or going independent. Independent nations sometimes intervene on one side, or against both!

- Work Remaining -

The continent of Mondalia (far east, currently mostly vacant and not recommended to be played)
Finishing national focuses for Onindyr
National focus trees for Soiryndia
Names, Portraits and flags for alternate ideology rulers that may pop up
Reworking the naval tree (the current one is kind of a relic)
Namelists and portraits for generals and admirals appropriate to each country
Minor graphical issues to be fixed

Credit to Wolferos and his team at the Great War mod, from whom I borrowed and adapted major parts of the WW1 era tech tree and equipment, lacking the expertise to create this myself. Art for this mod is almost none my own work and all rights are reserved to the original artists.

Nearly all work on this mod was performed by me independently, with some help from my friend Master Chief and lore contributions from a few others who I will recognize here: Ben1730, Skepic, Neruu, Hawke, and Trolldragonborn.

This mod is based on a setting and storyline originally created by me, but later contributed to by a number of others as part of a collaborative writing project located here if you're interested in further lore: https://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/175581-the-fading-light-of-vlandriel-ended-reboot-in-progress/ic

If you would like to help with the mod, offer more detailed feedback than you can fit in a comment, or even join in my playtesting multiplayer games, feel free to send me a friend request on Discord: Meiyuuhi#9331

Yes, the mod is currently out of date until I finish patching it for the new update with the No Step Back dlc.

I appreciate the feedback, but in all of my test games I've never really seen that as an issue. Common fronts like the front between Vaspen and Solizan, for instance, are 25 provinces long, and between the Imperium and its southern neighbors it's 23. The eastern border of France above Switzerland is 14 provinces long, between Poland and the Soviets is 16. I've never needed to do mass stack tactics on those fronts. If you're trying to invade Amrea from Avalia you might have an issue, though.

I think that for the map you should see tiles galore provinces expanded or something like that, so more battles and tactics can be done and less mass stack eu4/ck2 tactis would be needed.

So, for the next iteration of the mod @Bananabus I'm planning on instituting a mechanic for if one of the brothers wins they send an ultimatum to the remaining countries demanding that they capitulate and re-integrate into the Imperium as one of its dominions. The AI will take it most of the time, which should eliminate most chances of that happening, but you're right that I should account for the possibility. I'll make a note of that.
