2-6-6-2T clover valley lumber no.4

The 2-6-6-2 and 2-6-6-2T mallets are somewhat of a rarity, build in limited numbers by baldwin, they were exclusively used by lumber companies that had a sizeable operating spanning across a large area with several spread out logging camps. These locomotives where used to haul lumber from the far away logging camps to the sawmills, at a faster speed than the reliable but slow shay's could manage. They were able to climb steep grades and maneuvre across curved tracks easily thanks to their 'mallet' articulation.

Most of these locomotives were built by baldwin, this particular one is a 2-6-6-2T (T stands for tank) originally built for the clover valley lumber company. The histoty of this locomotive is extensive, remaining in active service untill 1985 with various other railways, untill she was stored and restored in 2008 to 2012. Now you can still see her in active service with the Niles Canyon railroad.
