This mod aims to provide more realism by allowing doctors to perform routine medical examinations at the patient's bedside. It also overhauls the way doctors choose examinations to mimic the real life workup of patients. The result is a much more realistic and streamlined approach to hospitalization in the game. The most amazing thing: you will no longer need huge armies of nurses to push around patients in stretchers to exam rooms!

=============================================================

MUST READ:

The mod will work with Traumatology and Infectious Diseases DLCs enabled. However, you will probably run into some annoying issues and so I recommend installing the DLC version of this mod which you can find on the workshop here:
https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2704508459

The mod has no compatibility issues with any other mod. It is worth noting that playing with any additional mods that add new examinations (all new department mods) will mess up the exam priority order that this mod has carefully balanced.

The mod makes changes to the Exams.xml and Roomtypes.xml files.

Regular wards and HDU wards now require the following additional items in order to be functional:

- CRP Scan
- Disinfectant Dispenser / Lab Sink / Kitchen Sink / Sink
- Defibrillator Wall / Defibrillator
- Equipment Cabinet / Equipment Cabinet Tall / Mobile Equipment Cabinet / Wall-mounted Equipment

The mod works with existing saves - just add the missing items to your wards.

The following Exams can no longer be ordered in a clinic. Patients must be hospitalized for them to be ordered:

- Biopsy Sampling
- PCR Sampling
- Serology Sampling
- Stool Analysis Sampling (except Internal Medicine patients)
- Microscopic Sampling (except Neurology patients)
- CBC (Complete Blood Count) Sampling

This simulates the workup of patients in real life hospitals. Generally speaking, if a doctor is doing blood cultures, PCR tests or taking a biopsy sample; the patient is pretty sick. These patients in a real life scenario would be hospitalized when these kinds of tests are ordered. It might be annoying for players who only want to play clinics and not have to deal with hospitalization but this is a "design" choice on my part. It's both realistic and eases a lot of the workload on your clinics and labs. Otherwise clinic patients who require lots of blood work keep bouncing back and forth between their clinic doctors and waiting outside labs.

===========================================================

Additional Information:

The mod does not eliminate the need for "Diagnostic Unit" rooms since not all exams can be carried out at the bedside; it simply reduces the workload on these rooms and frees up more nurses.

The mod increases the priority of the "Differential Diagnosis" exam which is an extremely powerful tool that was almost never utilized by doctors in the game. It helps narrow down the possible diagnoses and reduces the amount of time spent on investigations. I highly recommend you hire clinic and ER doctors with the "Advanced Diagnosis" specialization to make use of this exam.

Just like in real life, blood tests are often ordered early on in the workup of many hospitalized patients. Be prepared to expand your hematology lab to keep things running smoothly.

Any and all feedback is highly appreciated!

I understand that patients need to be admitted to get biopsies and cultures etc. done, but doctors don't seem to be smart enough to admit patients when those tests are necessary, so I constantly have to intervene and just order those patients admitted, then order the tests, and click through two popups each time. Is there anything we can do about that?

I made the suggested edit from previous comments to add certain examinations (such as basic biopsy testing) back to the outpatient clinics. However, while it worked and the examination is then available to click and is performed correctly when I do so, sometimes when I let the AI doctors do examinations themselves they do every examination 'except' some of the new ones that are re-added. Not only that, they sometimes freeze with "Idle" as their status and sit with the patient in the office with them not continuing any examination. If I manually click the final available examination they unfreeze and it works, but I have to notice they've frozen. Has anyone else run into this issue?

Is there a separate code I need to add for to queueing these exams back into the AI doctor's usual chain of events? The examination type is clearly available, and it works if I click it, but the AI doesn't always choose to do it itself and sometimes just stops doing examinations at that point.

How can I make the stool and blood tests available to clinics again? Do I just remove the required rooms?
I find it weird that you'd have to be admitted just to take a blood or stool sample for testing.

This is a great idea of a mod! I wish it worked with mods that add new departments, but still, great!

Hospilized for diagnosing flu A/B. Health insurances would run storm about this waste of money. :steamhappy:

I've had at least 6 CBC done in my life. 2 while hospitalized. Otherwise go to lab, get blood drawn, and get results sometimes days later. In real life a cbc and other bloodwork is used to screen for a variety of minor things in many countries and certainly not reserve for only very ill patients. It is periodically done for people who have no sign of health problems.

Similar for numerous other things. Stool and urine collection kits are even sent home with patients to collect the sample themselves when they next need to use the bathroom if symptoms are not severe. Biopsies would depend on how invasive it is.

Exceptions for those who go to an actual emergency room or trauma center but this game functions more like a general walk in clinic mashed with emergency facilities. Realism failed on many levels with this game. Requiring hospitalization for many of those tests is the opposite of adding more realism for most of the world.

seems to have broke my game now :( i hospitalise someone and the exam still says needs to be hospitalised despite sitting in the bed
Athena 2022 年 10 月 4 日 上午 10:54
Dear Butch, I really like that you add more realism to the game, but because this mod needs patients to be hospitalised for certain tests I sadly don't have enough beds to accommodate the patients anymore. Would it be possible to create a general Outpatient surgery (also known as ambulatory surgery, day surgery- source: wiki)? That way patients from every department can be admitted for less than a day/a few in-game hours for more complex tests/examinations. I'm not a modder so I don't know if what I'm asking is ridiculous or way too much work. I'm sorry if that is the case, then please ignore my post. Best regards, Athena :)

Your mods are great because it adds realistic elements into the game. This game would be so much better if it was more realistic. As a doctor, do you think that the symptoms and the examinations are accurate like in real life? It would be great if there was a mod to simulate diseases that match with symptoms and examinations like in real life.

I am having the same issues like @Miksus. I am getting pop ups all the time. Is there any way to automate hospitalization?
