It's strictly cosmetic, just like how Hiker's Backpack in vanilla doesn't increase your inventory slots, either.

"Lasting six years" as in from 1st to 6th grade. Most typical school bags will wear-out in less than time in the indelicate hands of kids, but a single randoseru can endure the wear and tear.
