Tracking System

描述
This microcontroller is a Tracking System that will show you ships around you on a live map.

Please note:
This is an early release, so don't expect too much.
Also this is just one part of three parts you need to make this work.
If you find any bugs, post into the comments please.

-----------------------------------------------------
use the Tracking System V2 instead as it is compatible with the zoomoveable map
-----------------------------------------------------

You will also need my zoomable map
and you'll need my AIS System.

What this microcontroller does

It will receive data from the AIS System and simply store it in a Lua table.
Then the data is drawn onto the screen. It will be drawn on top of the video signal that comes from the zoomable map.
This microcontroller is meant to work on a 9x5 monitor, if you use a smaller monitor it might not work.

Features
  • It will show ships around you at their current position
  • It will show an figurative icon of your ship and the other ships
  • The icon of each ship will turn accordingly to the heading of the ship
  • It will show a line in front of the icon of each ship that indicates the heading, to make it easier to see where the ship is going
  • Ships will be disblayed according to their size. So ships that fit into the small drydock are displayed very small (~3 pixels). Ships that fit into the large drydock and not into the small drydock are displayed larger (~5 pixels). Ships that have been created in custom drydocks which won't fit into the small drydock nor into the large drydock will be displayed very large (~7 pixels). Based on my own tests, that seems to be an accurate scaling of sizes
  • Supported ship types and colors
    1. Cargo Vessels (green)
    2. Tankers (red)
    3. Passenger Vessels (blue)
    4. High Speed Craft (yellow)
    5. Tugs & Special Craft (lightblue)
    6. Fishing (salmon)
    7. Pleasure Craft (purple)
    8. Unspecified Ships (grey)

There are still bugs
If you find other bugs, let me know.

@Lesman99+ I'm not doing anything for Stormworks anymore.
I once did an addon for my system
https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2026237006
which can show the speed, but as you also want to see the names, I highly recommend using the version of the user fabi123 who created his own version based on my system, which actually does that as far as I know.

can you add name and speed of ship? like a real life AIS, i need that for racing video content

I'm really pleased to see you working on this and making it work for you.
There have been requests to make this work on smaller monitors.
As i don't want to steal your effort, i want to encourage you to release your version on the workshop as well.
If you have Discord we can also talk there about further changes if you like.

Comment 2: Just getting into lua by the way, so I used this as an oppertunity to learn more about how it works. Took on the challenge of getting it to display and zoom smoothly on a 2x2 display. After a bit of frustration and confusion, I understood how you had built it, and redid some smaller triangles and moved the invisible "buttons" underneath them and changed the zoom parameters a bit. Works very well with the smaller monitor now. That was a fun challenge :)

Yeah, back on to the subject. I'm fine with it taking some time, I'm just happy you'd want to try and develop it further. I'll take a hard, long think about it, and maybe ask the guys what they'd like, and come back with some thoughts :)

I do think I read about some of the bigger Stormworks lua guys finding ways to get way more code crammed into the mc's and therefore stretching the limits. I wonder if they split up the lua scripts into seperate scripts working together. Not sure though.

Hehe, yes I know that site very well. Used it just last week for spotting awesome offshore tugs/AHTS' in Bergen, Norway. I recognized the "art style" right away. And I'm happy you chose that theme, it looks amazing.

Thanks for the compliment, i'm glad it works for you that well.

Regarding further updates:
When i started this project i had a lot of ideas how i once want it to look like.
The trigger for this actually was the site marinetraffic.com (you will recognize the color scheme of the ships) and i wanted to get as close as possible to the information they offer per ship.

But the way how i built this system quickly led into several limitations the game has.
To get around this i would either have to rework the whole system into something with multiple antennas, which i don't want to - or i will have to find a way, how to squeeze way more code into the microcontroller limits.
The last option might work out, but not very soon as i'm currently even struggling to finish my current project.

But if you have specific ideas for updates you'd like to see, feel free to let me know.

Excellent! I've had this in my workshop downloads for a long time, but is installing it now to use with buoys and other ships on a grand scale. Thanks for your amazing work!!
One question, will you come back to this and develop it further? We are a group of people who's heavy into roleplaying, and we want to outfit this system for all our ships on our dedicated server. Would be amazing to see an update or two to this, but only if you have the time and want to do it :) Thanks again!
