CLIMB MOUNT NARODNAIA
This series of scenarios is meant to simulate a Soviet invasion of Japan, after a joint Japanese-Korean-American fleet exercise is seen by the Soviets as a preparation for an attack against the motherland. These scenarios are not meant to be overly realistic, but instead are designed to mirror a campaign by the same name in Wargame: Red Dragon, with a few twists, edits, and additional content to make the missions more enjoyable and challenging. Operation Firebrand began 3 days ago, and Soviet high command is very happy with how the offensive has so far unfolded. The JSDF is in a panic, their losses already reaching the thousands on the ground and several hundred kilometers of land lost to the enemy. Several other thousand men are now under threat in Shikoku with the new Soviet invasion and subsequent capture of Tokushima. With this foothold on the last of the Japanese major homeland islands, the Japanese forces are breathing their last. South Korea joined the war and sent a fleet to help their allies and were punished severely. Several dozen Japanese and Korean ships now lie in the bottom of the seas around Japan serving as new coral reefs. The enemy's morale is shattered.
What the enemy does not necessarily know, however, is that the Soviet forces are not too far ahead strategically. This prolonged conflict has sent devastating waves throughout the nation. International sanctions, a strained Soviet economy, and dissatisfaction and disapproval of the war throughout the Union have all taken their toll on the countries’ ability to wage war. The Soviets cover a massive amount of ground and must keep all their borders and posts manned and at the ready in case of a general war against NATO. Due to this fact and the ever-growing losses in Japan, the Soviet economy is carrying a mighty weight, and cracking under the pressure. Although progress so far has been great, the Reds absolutely cannot afford a stall; they must finish Japan off as soon as possible.
On October 3rd the last of the available reserves in the Soviet Pacific fleet set sail to reinforce the frontlines. Through the night, several dozen ships and several hundred aircraft flock to and from the Sea of Japan, bringing in all the munitions, equipment and manpower the Soviets have left to offer. The stage is set for another large three-front offensive across Japan tomorrow, and its success or failure will be determined on the precious Soviet logistical tether remaining intact under increasing enemy opposition...
