Lighting Overhaul

描述
500 m/s version: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1590513628

This mod was made to suit my own personal taste. I was fed up with the game ramming chromatic aberration down my throat, so I removed it completely... One thing lead to another and I ended up creating a lighting overhaul.

If you want to make any changes or experiment yourself, here's how:

1. Find this mod's folder on your computer. It should be this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\244850\1591493334
2. Copy this folder into your space engineers mods folder, which you should find here:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Mods
3. When going into the mod settings of any world, you should see this mod on the left side with a small folder icon. Load that mod instead of the one with the steam-icon. It will essentially be the same mod, but loaded from another location.
4. Open the Environment.sbc file and tinker around with the values. If you want to see the effect, all you have to do is reload the world by hitting F5

These are the changes I made in the Environment.sbc file:

<AtmosphereIntensityMultiplier>15</AtmosphereIntensityMultiplier>
<AtmosphereIntensityAmbientMultiplier>2</AtmosphereIntensityAmbientMultiplier>
<CloudsIntensityMultiplier>5</CloudsIntensityMultiplier>
Small changes to make clouds stand out less on the dark side of the planet.

<SunIntensity>50</SunIntensity>
Less eye-strain when looking at directly lit white textures. We get it, the sun is bright.

<TimeOut>10</TimeOut>
Slow down the effect of "Eye adaptation". See further changes and explanation down below.

<SkyboxBrightness>.5</SkyboxBrightness>
<EnvSkyboxBrightness>0.5</EnvSkyboxBrightness>
<ShadowFadeoutMultiplier>0</ShadowFadeoutMultiplier>
<EnvShadowFadeoutMultiplier>0.0</EnvShadowFadeoutMultiplier>
<EnvAtmosphereBrightness>0.5</EnvAtmosphereBrightness>
The Env[...] values determine how bright the surroundings are dependent on how much the character is exposed to the skybox' and the atmosphere's brightness respectively. Setting these to 0 would make shadows pitch black, even in an atmosphere. Setting them too high would make the transition between indoor and outdoor spaces too harsh. This transition is what I believed to be "Eye adaptation" being backwards. It was caused by these values being too high. This effect is very much still there, only to a far lesser degree. The TimeOut value also slows down the transition, making it a bit less noticeable.

<AmbientRadius>0</AmbientRadius>
<AmbientLightsGatherRadius>0</AmbientLightsGatherRadius>
Removed ambient light. "Ambient light" as in a circle of light surrounding the character if close to light sources. This means no longer will ambient light from the spotlights affect the surrounding area seconds after turning it off.

<GlossMultiplier>0</GlossMultiplier>
"Textures" on unfinished armor etc. were just way to shiny, to a point where they would either be black or burn your eyes out. This gives them a bit more of a matt look, which is more in line with the textures on fully built blocks.

<BloomSize>2</BloomSize>
<BloomDirtRatio>.5</BloomDirtRatio>
Don't mind me, just cleaning my visor... That sh!t was nasty. It's not COMPLETELY clean, as I do want to keep a bit of it, but it's nowhere near as visible.

<ChromaticFactor>0.0</ChromaticFactor>
<VignetteStart>0.5</VignetteStart>
<VignetteLength>1.0</VignetteLength>
NO MORE CHROMATIC ABERRATION!!! This is the meat of it all. I also significantly reduced the vignette, because I don't have cameras for eyes, do I?

<EnvironmentTexture>Textures\BackgroundCube\Final\mwsky4096.dds</EnvironmentTexture>
Milkyway skybox. The one and only..

honestly its always annoying when games with a human character have chromatic aberration, its a defect in optics caused by lenses not bending all light wavelengths equally resulting in them not getting to the same focal plane, safe to say eyes are normally not supposed to experience this or lens flare for that matter.

One more question, is there a way to edit the falloff your suit spotlights? I don't really like how the light just suddenly stops lighting things up, I've tried editing the fall off setting but that doesn't seem to have the same effect as changing the falloff setting on the lights

Also, I don't know why but whenever I try copy pasting the steam mod to my local mods folder I get "9 critical errors" and the mod simply doesn't work. The steam mod works just fine but I get errors from using the copied version so idk what could be happening, although I did rename it from the string of numbers it was before

Does this mod improve stuff if I have an RTX card?

Hmmmmmmm. Thanks for breakdown of the code in the sbc file. Unlike, apparently, most Space Engineers, I prefer to be able to see wtf I'm doing at night, so have been fiddling around with ways to make the game brighter at night with a custom skybox (it is plenty bright with default skybox, but I quickly learned the Milky Way skybox makes ♥♥♥♥ a lot darker). Using a brighter, more colorful custom skybox helps... But maybe now I can faithfully recreate my model of our solar system with the MilkyWay skybox and still have night vision. We'll see. Thanks.

What should I change in Environment.sbc to make it brighter?
Also nub questions ummm can I use console to change values while server is on?

@HybridZach This mod hasn't been updated since Dec 18, so expect there to be some issues. Does the game become black even outside under the sun or inside an atmosphere during the day? Caves becoming pitch black is intended.
