Elven Treetop City Tileset

描述
Create an elven city on treetop platforms. The tileset is (currently) poor in features and groups but rich in terrains and crossers. For greatest utility, explore the Building terrain. Detailed notes can be found on my Neverwinter Vault page: https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/hakpak/tileset/elven-treetop-city-tileset

At the moment, the tileset contains no custom doors, only nodes for generic ones, so it's completely compatible with any other tileset. (Loadscreens.2da will clash if not merged, but this only affects loadscreens.)

This tileset is a work in progress, but is posted in this incomplete state for builders to use as desired. Development and bug fixes continue. For anyone wanting more frequent updates (to the hakpak per se, not the workshop project), I keep a copy of my most up-to-date hakpak in this public OneDrive folder: https://1drv.ms/f/s!AqYe14e9znC7hSBDY2PqY3do1LNd

Oh, Expandrew, I forgot: you can only see the textures on tiles in NWN Explorer if you put TGA versions in the hak. I don't do this to keep the size of the hak down, but it's very much an option during "test" phase. Or you can just load up the toolset every time and check out your tiles there.

To my regret, I have no idea if I'd ever have time to make the changes you request myself. As such, the only way to really guarantee getting what you want is to do it yourself. (This is also the approach that got me into modding! I wanted specific things that no one seemed to have made exactly how I had in mind. I think a lot of people start this way. Otherwise we would just use existing mods and be happily on our way.)

Expandrew, you can start with editing textures. Use a tool called NWN Explorer to browse the contents of the hak. From "Textures, DDS" find a texture you want to change, then export it as TGA. You can edit that with a free image editor like GIMP, then convert it back to DDS with the Bioware DDS Converter Tool. Drop your edited DDS into a copy of the hakpak, using the Bioware hak editor. Then use the toolset or NWN Explorer to see how tiles look with your edited texture.

If you feel like you've made the progress you want with that, you can then look into editing geometry. For working on tile geometry, I use the free 3D Modelling program GMax. It isn't generally available anymore, but you can find it on Neverwinter Vault (the same place there all the tools I mentioned above can be found, except for the hak editor, which comes with the game). You'll then need the NWMax plugin to import and export models. I also recommend VelTools. Good luck!

Again, sorry for the very late replies. My life is very busy at the moment, so I've not had time to do much work on this set or even check comments.

Caine, the tileset is called Elven Treetop City in the toolset, but the hakpak is called high_forest. Go to Module Properties and add high_forest to the hak list. (In my old version of NWN, it needs to be in the hak subfolder of the game to show up as an option; I forgot if the Steam version takes care of this for you.) Then make a new area and choose Elven Treetop City from the list of tilesets.

I will answer the other query in a separate comment due to the character limit.

how do you open this tileset in the actual toolset?

This is hands down my favorite NWN Custom Tileset ever and I like it way better than the CTP Elven City.

Is there any possibility you might ever do a white marble stone/blue shingle retexture for the buildings for more of a High Elven, rather than Wood Elven theme? Maybe even add some minarets and/or spires and towers to the building tiles?

I was thinking about trying to figure out how to do it myself, but I have no experience with retexturing tilesets or making custom ones.

Hi DoomMaster, sorry for the very late response, but the platform terrain is generally placed "over" the High Forest terrain (this is an oversimplification, and not strictly accurate - no terrain is really "over" another, only adjacent - but if you have an area that's just High Forest you should easily be able to paint Platform anywhere).

This is just brilliant. It would also appear for a builder, using the Vault download, it doesn't use really any resources. Most excellent.
