Chicago Billionaire

描述
Reach 1 million inhabitants in Chicago and $2Bln company value.
- - - - - - - SLOW GROWTH!!!
- - - - - - - Fuel cost doubled.
- - - - - - - Acceleration halved.
Using the default Midwest economy, this game also has: New tasks, Realistic loco speeds, techs a lot weaker, selected enough for 30 years play, innovation point allowance reduced, industry cost increased, profits lowered.

****February 2019 note:
Due to a game update, innovation points are only given for 20 years. After January 1861 you will not receive anymore innovation points. Thanks to jsb for reporting this. I suggest you build Universities early in the game and hire some Inventors which will give you a comfortable amount of points.

About:
This map was play-tested on Trainiac mode. You need to buy lots of industries for billionaire status and those are expensive so you wont get the feeling of having too much cash.

Even on Trainiac, each day takes 4 seconds so a year is 24 minutes. That's 2.5 years per hour. Assuming you play for 25 years that's about 10 hours.

Was tested while ignoring bonds, connection bonuses, tech and regular auctions, and cheap industry offers. This makes the game challenging. If that's harder than you like, use them like normal, although the tech auctions do make an impact on progress through the tech tree that can't be balanced against.

When setting up the scenario I can't have variable cash or allow starting anywhere other than the 4 default starting cities, which were kept for sake of the AI/spacing.

The AI players
Map can be played without AI, however, there are perks to playing against them such as once you defeat them you get to hire all their employees.

AI players start with plenty of cash because they are shy on industry buying, and not smart generally making them too easy as early targets otherwise. If they are getting away on you, chose an easier setting which delays their actions.

Employees
Employees make a bigger difference since techs are less powerful. Watch out for the Chief Engineer who gives more innovation points. With max universities and an employee workplace relationship boost, it's possible to earn 100 innovation points a month. It's a strategy call on how many Universities to build. At that rate you would unlock all techs very early. It's for this very reason that I didn't unlock all techs. If maxxing them we could see the EMD diesel well before 1900 which would kill realism.

Billionaire status
The way to do this is with industries. They are quite useless for profit but have a big effect on your worth especially if you buy them cheap.

Industries are double normal price, but earn only a quarter of regular profit. They are expensive enough that you may not feel in control of map development like normal. But, you will need to expand across the map thanks to the AI player's competition. There's quite a strategic balance in deciding where to max develop early and what to hold off on till you can fund purchasing resources and industries involved. That is the key to the billionaire status.

Engines
Perceived speed of 2.5 was selected. This is the default speed on a 1870 period map. The bigger difference is the acceleration which was approximately halved by increasing loco mass/weight.

Car weight was increased by 50%, so don't try to use express engines for freight duties. Grades matter more.

Yes. It's playable. The issue I mentioned in my previous post was fixed in time. Thanks for the ping, I removed the notice for that. When I made the map we didn't have Promoters in the game. Using those will make the map easier.

The Memphis objective fulfills two purposes:
1. Make the player interested in this area of the map if they didn't start in Nashville.
2. Make the player think about keeping the Tool Factory in Chicago instead of simply razing it when they can afford to build a different factory that will be "more useful" in the long term.

Without knowing your general approach I can't advise on specifics for Memphis. It's not meant to be a challenging task.

Hi gardlt ,
is this still playable in 2024 ?

any tips for Memphis objective/priority?

Glad you had fun otherwise. :)

Game version 1.14 introduced a mechanic change: passengers that will take that route as part of a longer journey are no longer counted for this sort of task.

I would highly recommend playing this in version 1.13 by selecting "Legacy" branch in your library -> game properties.

I have always believed that this mechanic change in 1.14 was unintended. It has been over a year now..... I'm cautiously optimistic that in any future update the original mechanic will be restored.

When making this I was disappointed to find out that there is no end-game page for community-made scenarios. The game has no reaction if you do well or not. I don't mind if you ignore this task.

Fun difficult scenario but why Toledo to Omaha with no stops! I hate these type of missions. They are so difficult to complete. I get like 13 passengers a train while boosting both cities and using tourist traps.

Thanks for reporting this. Much appreciated.

Thanks. Now that I know I'll be more careful with the tech points.

Thanks to one of the updates, 1.7?, you only earn tech points for the extent of a typical game. Because this map is based on a regular era, that will be 20 years. Sure enough, on Jan 1. 1861 your monthly allowance disappears. After that, you can only obtain them by hiring the random Inventors.

I balanced tasks so that they should be completed in half the given time. So realistic this is a 30 year game. Thanks to the change, research will be static for the last 10.

Let me think about what to do. At least I will put notice for the player. Do you think it can be strategic that the player should finish up what research he wants before 1860?

PS. With Musuems and the right Chief Engineer it's possible to get 100+ monthly points.

Using normal. I once dipped into the previous era's tech. I don't know if that did it.

I will check. It will help if I know which version you are using: public beta, normal, or legacy?

Tech points will not accumulate past a certain threshold. I'm in @ 1860 and I stopped earning tech points but there are still techs to research. Is this by design? Thanks.
