Halo - The Flood

描述
As of V3, this mod is no longer intended to be a balanced Civilization. That's not to say it will utterly destroy you, but do be warned that it's meant to lean more towards the overpowered side of things. One single Flood spore can destroy a species, after all.

With that cleared up, this mod adds the Flood parasite from the Halo franchise into Civilization V as a new, fully playable Civilization. A terrifying parasitical lifeform, the Flood as a Civilization revolves around numerical superiority much like their Halo counterparts, and come with a set of bonuses meant to overwhelm their enemies through sheer military force at the expense of individual strength. While they cannot build Aircraft or Missiles, they more than make up for this by the fact that they do not pay any Gold maintenance for ANY of their military Units. (Civilian Units are an exception.) This makes it much easier for Flood armies to be amassed very quickly, and any casualties sustained on the battlefield can be easily replaced by either more Flood forms, or through the capture and assimilation of enemy forces. This ability is available to every Flood melee Unit, although melee forces' lack of coordination do cause them to suffer a penalty to Combat Strength.

=====Unique Ability - The Parasite=====
May not build Aircraft or Missiles. All Flood melee Units receive the Parasite promotion, offering them the ability to capture enemy Units by random chance, but also inflicts a -25% debuff to Combat Strength. Pay no Gold maintenance for ALL Units. (Except civilians.)

=====Unique Unit - Infection Form=====
Unlocked by the Biology promotion while replacing no existing Units, the Infection Form is unique in that it has a very specialized setup that allows it to almost always capture enemy Units on the battlefield. Put simply, the game's random chance to capture enemy Units is hard-coded and cannot be changed, so the best course of action that can be done is simply to set the Infection Form's Combat Strength to 500, thereby giving it the maximum possible chance of 80% in almost any scenario. For balance reasons, it also receives only a single point of Movement and a steep penalty to its Defensive Strength - 500% to be exact - which typically brings its Combat Strength value back down to much more manageable levels on the battlefield. In any case, the Infection Form is an extremely powerful addition to the Flood's armies, an incredibly dangerous and demoralizing Unit that can almost always capture any enemy forces that are unfortunate enough to come in contact with it.

=====Unique Building - Flood Hive=====
Replacing the entire Military Experience tree of buildings, (the Barracks, Armory, and Military Academy specifically,) the Flood Hive is a unique building that is unlocked fairly early in the game at Construction, which is designed to dramatically increase the production capabilities of the Flood as a whole. With no Gold maintenance costs and a fairly cheap Production cost to build in Cities, the Flood Hive provides a +500% bonus to Production when building any military forces, both on land and at sea, ensuring the Flood's dominance in the field of numerical superiority.

Nah it's okay. I suppose if you want you can start a new Discussion thread for your campaign, that's possible.

In the meantime, I could look into what's going on with the Flood. That seems like fewer Units than one would think. Hmm.

That's possible his army is out of position or there's a mod issue. At worst, I could turn some of the AI values for military up in the mod and have another mini-update. But that shouldn't really affect it too much.

Just small groups? Everything should be set up in the AI properties. What difficulty are you playing on? Or maybe it could be related to the mods you're running?

Oh yeah, they can still build aircraft carriers despite being unable to build aircraft. I actually thought about whether or not to disable them for the Flood, but then I thought "Someone out there will probably find a REALLY creative use for these" so I left them available.

Yeah that does sound about right. They're supposed to have huge bonuses to Production and military strength. But their weakness is that they can't build aircraft. At least, that was my intention when balancing them.

Good luck. I hope the war goes well.

Good luck. And please tell me how it goes. If there's any balancing issues, I'll be willing to give the Flood some tweaks.

@Garrett

You will be happy to hear that I have heeded your advice and updated the mod to Version 3, buffing the Flood substantially in the process. I pretty much overhauled and rebuilt the whole thing from scratch. It desperately needed it, after all - the Flood was quite possibly the worst most low quality mod out of every one I've ever made. They should be MUCH better in every way now, and also much more powerful while we're at it. Not unbeatable, hopefully, but still a much more significant and considerable threat compared to say, Mongolia or the Zulu.

Hope you're finally able to play out the Flood fantasy :D

@Garrett

I've gotten the time to work on the Flood now. I've started work on a new patch that will rework and overhaul the set of uniques that the Flood gets, and also fix a bunch of other things wrong with the mod while I'm at it. Estimated time of release? I have no idea. But expect it by the end of the year at the absolute latest.

I wish there was a pop corn variant.

I could look into making a patch that completely overhauls the unique ability. Maybe something like gain Science for each enemy unit killed, and convert all enemy ground Units to your side, in addition to the lack of unit maintenance. That would make a lot more sense.

Truth is, the reason I didn't go for that at the time was because I wanted to save the unit conversion idea for Yuri, from Red Alert 2. Also, at the time I'd already been playing a lot of games with a Civ that can do exactly that already with all their Units, so it felt like I would've just been copying them. I'll see about changing up the unique ability, but I've been busy with other stuff at the moment so it may take some time.
