Dune: Awakening is undoubtably one of the most beautiful and mesmerising games I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It was clear right from the start that it was special, because even the polish of the menu interface stood out to me. I especially love the animations and details of the vehicles, and even till now, the suspense when a sandworm breaches keeps me on the edge of my seat.

Given the setting, thirst would obviously be an important survival mechanic to manage, but there is no hunger meter. Something unique to Dune is spice levels. It’s not just lore fluff either, because prescience grants actual gameplay benefits, like lower skill cooldowns and more visible info on enemies.

The game has forced PvP zones at almost all shipwrecks in the PvE map. I can’t say I’m a big fan of that idea, but we’ll try to get by for now. But given that the current endgame is PvP-focused, I hope that Funcom adds much more content down the line to cater to the majority of players who are PvE-only.

In any case, Dune: Awakening’s world truly feels like Arrakis. It’s all done with utmost care and detail by Funcom. Not to mention the captivating story and lore in this alternate timeline that they have created.
