Hello again, Sleepers!

Come kick your boots up, grab that spiced coffee, and take a look at all the beautiful things we have to share with you in this Communinet Signal. This one is picture heavy with so many incredible bases from the community; prepare to be inspired! We also have concept art from Chapter 3 and a general round up of the recent going ons.

We know many of you are looking forward to more news on self-hosting servers as well as the list of servers for the merges, and while we won’t go over that in this Signal, it’s something we will be talking and sharing more about soon.

Developer Update – April

Our recent developer blog included major news! All PvP zones in Hagga Basin will be disabled across all official Worlds and all official Worlds will have separate PvE and PvP Deep Desert instances you can choose from.

Public Testing Client Patch 1.3.20

Speaking of separate instances, you can check this out now on the PTC! We also have balancing changes to Testing Station bosses and loot, performance improvements, various fixes, and more. We appreciate feedback on patches released here and would love to hear yours.

Developer Deep Dive

Q&A

Q: When will a list for the server merges be released?
A: The list of all affected Worlds will be released soon! You’ll have time to prepare once the list and announcement is made, a couple weeks minimum, before the Worlds will close.

Q: Regarding self-hosted servers, can you change between PvE and classic Deep Desert at will or are you locked in after choosing?
A: Yes! With a self-hosted server, you have the freedom to change the server settings as you wish, giving you control over how the game is played.

Q: We’ve seen the changes to reduce boss HP in Testing Stations on the PTC, but are there plans to tweak the number of enemies in them?
A: We've been looking very closely at feedback regarding this, and we are performing another balancing pass adjusting the number of enemies spawned with the boss. Coming soon to PTC!

Q: When can we expect 1.3.20 to go live?
A: Our goal is to release it in April, but that depends on the performance and feedback from the Public Test Client. Please try it out and provide feedback if you can!

question for anyone interested

do you find it fair for a newer player just trying to knock out their trainer quests for the first time to unlock their skills. that on the return home from the map screen to be spawned in soel? or would you agree that makes zero sense to be thrown into a part of the map that your not ready for with no way to deal with it and thus losing your only means of leaving hagga and 3 days of grinding for everything needed for it. im shocked the issue wasnt Raised so Im wondering if players think that its just...

Public Test Client: Patch 1.3.20.0

Hey there Sleepers,

This update comes with an exciting introduction that you may have seen in our latest developer blog[duneawakening.com]: PvE and PvP Deep Desert instances! We also have changes to Testing Station bosses and loot, performance improvements, various fixes, and more. Take a look, try it out, and let us know what you think!

To assist you with testing, don’t forget to take advantage of the Progression Unlock Panel (only available in the PTC) where aside from getting resources and gear, XP and unlocking Journey chapters, you can unlock faction ranks and crafting materials.

Please note this is still a Work in Progress build and as a result you may found placeholder text and assets in it. This will be polished during the PTC period.

Highlights

Introduced PvE and PvP Deep Desert instances! All official Worlds will now have at least one PvE and PvP instance of the Deep Desert. More on this under the “Deep Desert and Landsraad” header.
Multiple improvements made to streaming distances to improve performance and memory usage.
Altered drop rate of gear in Testing Stations to not heavily favor specific weapons such as "The Ancient Way" and "Pyrockets", to make the loot drops more fair.
The amount of HP bosses have when fought by groups has been lowered in the Overland Map Testing Stations.
Reduced the drop rate of less desirable items such as Stillsuit pieces to prioritize combat related items.
Added a "Recycle" function to the Base Reconstruction Tool.

Dune: Awakening - 1.3.15.0 Patch Notes

Hey Sleepers,

Patch 1.3.15.0 is here, bringing an exciting new feature: Base Recycling! This will refund all the materials and items stored in a base blueprint. Press the X key on a backed up base to start the process!

This patch also includes numerous fixes to reported issues and more. Read everything included in this patch in the notes below.

Patch notes and hotfixes for subsequent releases in this version will also be found here and updated when they are released. Some of the patches below will take effect the moment they are deployed, while others may require a downtime. If your game isn’t updating by itself, you may need to wait a bit and/or restart your Steam client. Please keep an eye on in-game service messages.

Highlights

New feature: Base Recycling. This refunds 100% of materials and items stored in a base blueprint within the Base Backup Tool. You can back up and recycle multiple bases to recover spent materials.
To recycle your base, back it up, then hold the X key. A pop-up will explain the process. Confirm to recycle the base, and a confirmation pop-up will appear.
Fixed an issue where weapons augmented to increase their rate of fire caused an exaggerated increase.
Fixed an issue where mnemonic recollection charges were sometimes granted at the wrong time or the timer displayed incorrect time. Since this may affect available mission charges, all players received the maximum number (35) with the update.

I regret that there’s no option to give a “neutral” review, because in my opinion that’s what this game deserves. Do I recommend it? The answer is—it depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re after good PvP, faction warfare (which was promised by the developers early on), and an engaging endgame—then I definitely do not recommend it. There’s a huge amount of grinding (especially since specializations were introduced in Chapter 3), and skipping it leaves you far behind other players. Regardless of your time or dedication, there’s no way to catch up with those who have been playing regularly since the start of Chapter 3, because specialization XP gain is capped. There are constant issues with logging in, stability (especially on larger servers), crashes, and bugs. The repeatable dungeons introduced in Chapter 3 are extremely buggy, and unfortunately the developers seem to focus on fixing trivial, insignificant issues instead of addressing the bigger problems. The currently promised Chapter 4, which was supposed to focus on fixing PvP and the Deep Desert, doesn’t look very promising—but we’ll see.

As for the positives: the story. The story is definitely the game’s biggest strength. If you’re a fan of Frank Herbert and the world of Dune, the attention to detail is really impressive. The first 100 hours of gameplay (subjectively—that’s how long I played before leaving Hagga Basin, the main starting location) were wonderful, and I wish I could forget the game just to experience that stage again. Unfortunately, the magic fades once you leave Hagga (especially in the Deep Desert). The game also has a very enjoyable survival system involving sandworms and managing your water levels. Traveling through Hagga Basin is very satisfying.

I’m giving it a negative review because there are definitely more problems than positives. Maybe Chapter 4 will change my mind if PvP gets properly fixed (splitting the Deep Desert—originally intended purely as a PvP zone—into PvP and PvE is not, in my opinion, a real fix for PvP).
